Hello! This is my first time posting here, but with this issue I’m having I figured I’d ask here.

Usually I’d go straight to my dealership but since they haven’t really been helpful (and they’ve misdiagnosed 2 of my previous issues) I figured I’d try here before going back to them.

Yesterday, I came home to find a wire hanging from my closed door. It wasnt there that morning, and it wasn’t there when I left to run some errands.

They did park it outside, so I’m not sure if they may have accidentally pulled it with their foot when they got out.

I was able to locate where the other end of the wire connects to, but I’m having a hard time figuring out what the wire is for.

I haven’t had any electrical issues as everything is working fine, and all my lights are working. My remote start and key fob are also working just fine.

It’s a thick wire, with four colored wires in the middle. They don’t appear to be stripped, so I’m not sure if they were ever connected to something in the first place? They’re also not chewed through, so rodents are out of the question.

I’ve tried looking through diagrams but nothing has really been helpful for me.

I’ve attached photos of the wire along with a photo of where I think the wire ends (I tugged on it a little, and that was what moved with it).

I’ve also included a photo of where I think it might be connected to as well.

Anything helps!! Most likely will take it to the dealership, but if I could get this figured out and fixed without them, it would be great.

If it helps, I’m driving a 2018 Jeep wrangler jk unlimited Sahara.

The 3rd photo with the barcode also shows a light blue clip, that also seems to be connected to the wire.

-Alex
Any help is appreciated!! Thank you all for your time

To me, the wire sheathing and excessive use of electrical tape does not look like a factory installed wire. Are there blue LEDs under your dash, is that what I am seeing in your pictures?

Hi! Thanks for answering.

As far as I’m aware, everything is factory. I wasn’t informed of any aftermarket installs when I purchased the car.

As for the leds, I don’t have any under my dash. The only lights I have is the one that turns on when I open the car so I can see where I’m stepping.

The other light comes from what I’m guessing is the security alarm( which I guess does count as aftermarket now that I think about it) I originally thought the wire was connected to that, but the colors don’t match at all.

That looks like speed wire to me. Typically used in car stereo, amp, car alarm installs.

Maybe ask your dealer if they hard wire tracking devices to the jeep? If they DO, those wires might have connected to that device. I don't know. But it's a guess.

Did you dealer ask you if you wanted a tracking device at the sit down part where they try selling you all those extra warranties? Mine actually did! I immediately asked them why would I want that if the JEEP app already tracks the Jeep for me? I remember them telling me it did something else too, but I don't remember what it was. I told them I didnt want any dealer installed tracking device in mine at all and they said they would remove it before I drove off.

Now Im going to go look under my steering wheel! :CWL:

Better guess than me at the moment!

I’ll have to ask, but I don’t remember them telling me about the tracking device when I sat down with them.

About the speed wire, everything you listed is working fine with no issues at the moment. So my only guess would be that it’s extra wire that came loose ? (Could explain why the wires aren’t stripped but don’t know about anything electrical, so I’m probably wrong)

Thanks for replying !

Well, that kind of wire is NOT OEM. So it did NOT come from the factory. The electric tape used is a dead giveaway too. Someone added something to your Jeep.

Factory wire tape is typically Tesa Tape. Which is fabric like.

Im totally guessing here. But I suspect you might have had a tracker. That one mechanic installed. And when it came time to sell it, perhaps another mechanic just cut it out and said screw it with the wires. That would be a total NOOB and dick move on their part. But who knows man.

But that is clearly NOT something OEM. I would be ask the dealer WTF it is and until then, I would tape each wire lead off so it can't accidently ground out to any metal and or short whatever the heck it's connected too.

Yeah I’ll have to tape it when I go to work since I don’t have any electrical tape with me at the moment.

Thanks for your input! I’ll have to meet up with the dealership to see what it is. I’ll update if they actually give me an answer this time.
