So my 14 day insurance coverage window for new purchase of JL ended today. Got the JL its own new policy yesterday and had to talk them into allowing me full glass coverage with zero deductable. Today, it gets hit by a rock on my wife's 20min commute home....10 minutes later I've got a 1.5 foot crack in the windshield.

I've had a TJ since '98 and a YJ for 5 years before that...I probably average 2 windshields a year. Last month I had a rock come through my TJ windshield coming home from Denver. Showered me with glass. I was really lucky I was wearing shades since I had little flakes of glass embeded in my right arm. Drove the remaining 40 min home picking glass out of my arm and bleeding all over hell.

I really wonder if the Gorilla glass option would be any better.

Was worse in the cold of Minnesota...I had jeeps there for about 15 or so years. Any little crack rapidly grows in that cold. When its 20+ below without wind chill if you have any crack they would just split and grow with any decent bump or pothole.

Like I said, I must be the luckiest guy on Earth. Out of a YJ, two JKUs, and a JLU I have never, ever had a rock break a windshield.

I drive everything from one lane gravel roads, to one lane paved county roads, to two lane state roads, to 70 MPH interstates on a weekly basis. Never had a problem.

I read these threads all the time and it makes me wonder what's going on.

Consider yourself lucky. In Texas insurance does not cover glass breakage as
a separate category. Whatever your comprehensive deductible is, that’s what you pay or you just pay out of pocket. No zero deductible glass coverage unfortunately. Side note: a 2015 Lexus GS350 FSport windshield costs $1400.

Glass is rediculously expensive. In Minnesota full glass with zero deductable would cost me about 10 bucks a month. Now in colorado they require a minimum 250 comprehensive deductable to even get the option for full glass.

This makes me so glad I live in a zero deductible state. I hope it stays that way.
