Plenty of discussion here on people removing the lever to prevent theft or misuse of the winch when owner not present so I know people have done this. Temporarily removed the lever and put it back on.

OK. Here is my problem. This is a new winch, I took the lever off as there wasn't enough room to turn it (caught against the bumper). Removed the lever and ground so that it clears. Tightened the allen on reinstall. Now lever does nothing. The winch works using the switch, both in and out. I feel like I misaligned when putting it back in. This is the Badlands Apex 12k rope. Can someone offer a suggestion. Every youtube I find talks about taking the whole thing apart and people rebuilding. Nothing on this issue. Thanks.

I used to safety wire it locked to "on". If needed a screwdriver can break the wire. I don't need to do this anymore, in the woods.

Ok, a bit of follow-up for those searching this thread. I was successful in getting it to work.

I pulled the lever off again and used the buttons buttons on the in/out remote. I figured it was in the engaged position. Put the lever back on and re-screwed it in with the Allen wrench. I ran the remote again to make sure it was still engaged. Turned the lever to free release and it worked. A note on the Allen bolt, it never seemed to go all the way tight. It turned numerous times, can't imagine it's not seated.

No where could I find help on this issue except for tearing the cover off the winch which is a major PIA with the steel Rubicon bumper (means a complete reinstall). Like if this is helpful please. I don't know for certain if this is the same procedure for the Warn winch.
