I’ve owned 4 ā€˜Jeep jeeps’ in 50 years plus a Patriot (which I loved). My first was a 1974 CJ5 that had rust-thru by 1976 (including the gas tank!), a 1980 CJ7 that had body welds that failed in the first year and the most anemic 4 cylinder engine I ever owned (Iron Duke), a 2015 that was perfect except the clutch was pretty touchy, and now a 2019 that so far has been great.

They are what they are and if you don’t enjoy tinkering they probably aren’t for you. I love how they look. I love to tinker. While I don’t do aggressive off-roading, I like knowing I can. That said, the current pricing, paint issues, and overengineering (looking at you ESS) are disappointing. I wish they offered a lower cost, no-frills, stripped down model for those who want simplicity and a platform for personal modifications.
