Thanks a lot Bill. I really appreciate this information. I wasn't familiar with either.
You are welcome John! Glad to help out.

I would also go with stick on weights, especially with regards to aluminum wheels. I’ve never had one fall off and they are hidden.

I sure appreciate everyones input, information, and suggestions.

For mounting tires, I know tire machines have changed but I go back to these. 👇 😉

they're especially hidden if you get the black ones to match your black wheels. 👍

or you could just put tape over them. either way, they're not coming off easily, as they're protected from contact with rocks (or curbs), and the rotating forces actually push them on, not off.

Can those be used on steel wheels?

You forgot the bubble balancer.

I used to work in a small town full service tire shop in the 90s. Cars, trucks, 18 wheelers, farm equipment, everything.

We broke down 18 wheeler wheel/tires with duck bill sledge hammers and 4’ pry bars.

30-40 year old grain trucks would come in with lock ring wheels, bud wheels, etc. Those were always fun. Internationals, Studebakers, plus the more common brands. They only had 10-15k miles. The only time those trucks were driven to town was for service or to haul a big load.

Yeah- Dad’s garage (with pumps) had a bubble balancer, a mostly truck service, truck tires by hand, crowbars, your sledge. The lock rings sucked. Bud wheels ?🤔, split rims ? Also sucked.

uhh- the same trucks, but they weren’t 30–40 years old at his Flying A in the 50’s, bought out by Phillips 66 in the mid 60’s, Union 76 sometime in the 70’s.

Balancing the tire wheel and hub, while still on the vehicle. I balanced many this way, back in the 50’s. Using the hunter spin balancer.

My dad had an Orange VW Thing back around ‘77. When he sold it, a guy drove all the way from Laredo for it.

i don't recall ever seeing it, possibly because most people with steel wheels wouldn't bother.
but i don't know why not (as long as they're put on the wheel on the inside of the wheel like they are with Alloy wheels),..?

maybe someone with specific knowledge could pipe in on the topic.
