Wheel fitment question

Ok, which wheel is going to stick out further? Tire would be a 35 x 12.5 in either situation.

Mopar bead lock capable which is a 17x8, 4.4" BS and +12 offset
OR
17x8.5, 4.75" BS and zero offset?

The zero offset will stick out 12mm further than the +12.

This is correct, 8.5-4.75=3.75 vs 8-4.4=3.6

Is this for a Rubicon application?

A Sahara with a 2.5" Teraflex ST2, 2-1/2" lift with shocks. Max BS I can have is 4.75 and I need to keep tires as close to under fenders as possible.

It looks to me like an 8 inch wheel with a +12 offset would be about a 4.97 inch backspace, not 4.4.

I'm pretty new to all this offset / backspace stuff, but if a 0 offset is center line that would make backspace 4".
Then adding in .47" for the +12mm offset, would give 4.47".

But the converter gives your value of 4.97" with 4.5" backspace for a 0 offset on an 8" wheel.

Kinda confused.

An 8 inch wheel is really 9 inches between the edges so there is another 1/2 inch on each side of the center.

Your logic makes sense, but it’s not spot on. Have to factor in the face of the wheel or something weird.
9 wide wheel with -12 offset is 4.5 backspacing.
4.5 inch bs in theory would be a 0 offset but it’s not.
