I have 37x13.50 Nitto Mud Grapplers and wonder what you guys are using for dressing. I don’t want to use anything that will cause cracking or leave a super shiny finish. I have used 303 for my interior and top because it has UV protection. However, these tires are BIG and I wonder if there is something out there that is cheaper and won’t sling or cause cracking in the long run.

They always end up turning brown in three weeks or so when I dress them, which is a PINTA to clean off. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks guys

When I used to have an Instagram page, there was a guy on there with a white two-door Rubicon, dude lived in New York City if I remember right. Gave me the best tip ever for cleaning off my tires. Go to a Dollar Tree, pick up a couple bottles of Totally Awesome degreaser...

Other places sell it, but only Dollar tree sells it for a $1.25 each.

Literally, out of the sunlight, spray it all around your tires, let it sit for about a minute, and then just hose it off. Make sure you hose it off well, and it should come beautifully black again really easily. If you had to and if it was really really brown, you could probably scrub it down a little bit too, I never have but I also apply this stuff every couple of weeks. After that put on whatever sealant you want and you're good to go for the most epic mall crawls. ? ;) :like:

Shoot, I use the 303 protectant on my tires. Spray it on, let it sit for a bit and then wipe off the excess with a microfiber. Looks good, protects well and sure doesn’t seem to turn brown at all. I used to use the tire foam stuff and that does turn brown and slings a lot. About the only time I use that anymore is when I spray it in the wheel wells to break up the dirt and such.

I will look into that. I wonder if it could cause cracking though.

Years ago, when I lived in Nevada, we sprayed Pam on the insides of the wheel wells and wherever we didn’t want to scrub before muddying. It made it easy to just spray the mud off after playing. That was with my YJ though and the mud stained everything.

Thank you for the reply

I use degreaser and a plastic scrub brush on the tires as part of my wash routine. Tires turn brown because the anti-UV and other chemicals added during manufacturing naturally leach out of the rubber compound and come to the surface and collect there.

On the occasion that I dress the Jeep tires, very rarely, I'll use 303. It's water-based, not silicone. It doesn't sling. It leaves a nice semi-gloss finish.

Nothing wrong with a clean Jeep. IMO, mud is mud, nothing else. My Jeep gets cleaned after trail use so I can then put it up on the rack and look everything over.

100% agree with this. I too clean and inspect the undercarriage after each trail run plus use the rattle can in areas I took the paint off

I only use soap and water. Too much stuff out there that pulls the natural oils out of the rubber.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
Like some of the other folks, I use gravel, 3/4-minus, soft sand, silt, hard-pack. Most anything I can find off road works well. Hope that helps indeedy.

I think shiny tires like like shit, no matter the vehicle. If you want nice matte black tires, then do this before you wash it. Spray them with Amor All foaming tire spray, a nice thick foamy coat. Let the foam dissolve, then wash your Jeep. Afterwards the tires should be nice and clean, but in no way shiny.

Spraying or wiping chemicals on the tires will ages them prematurely. If you want a protectant, use 303, which wont penetrate and break down the rubber.
