The OBDII BT adapters I've bought to work with Jscan have come with basic apps that will read and clear codes on other vehicles.

I wonder if there's any risk of damage from clearing limp mode inducing codes.
Reportedly it was an intermittent problem with the camshaft position sensor or associated wiring.

Apparently, a license is required to clear codes.

There's a list of free versus license features here: https://jscan.net/licenses/

Also, keep in mind some old/basic OBD-II scanners are compatible with only ECU/PCM and emissions modules/codes (i.e. they can't read/clear transmission, BCM, ABS, etc. codes).

I just cleared codes yesterday on a coworkers JK using JScan, I didn't have to buy a license for his VIN. I was able to view live data as well, he was having misfires and o2 sensor faults, so we monitored the live data while we drove.

It gave me a warning stating that a license might be needed based on what I needed to do, and functionality would be limited without one, but we had no issue clearing codes. His was a 2011 if it matters
Ok thanks, I was trying to think what I could add to my tools to help out a JK or Jl owner. I am going to add a decently priced scanner.

@Terrymo what OBD 2 device do you recommend to use with JScan? And do you need the additional mopar cord to run JScan? Or can you just plug the obs2 device in and get to changing things?

The JSCAN website makes specific recommendations for compatible devices. . Plug the device into your OBD port. Link with Bluetooth to your phone through the app to read and clear codes. To make permanent changes to tire diameter etc you need a SGW bypass cable like the one made by Tazer. I‘m not an expert but there’s lots of JSCAN threads.
I have one of their less expensive recommendations and have had no issues

Minor point of clarification:

Tazer itself is a bypass, the ZAutomotive cable is merely an extension; bypass cables are "12+8"s that essentially add an OBD-II port on the secure side of the SGW.

Yes. Thanks for clarifying.

I started with an ECRI device, and ZautomotIve extension cables for convenience, JSCAN app, plus Vgate VLinker MC+ thinking I would never use a Tazer. Now I use both Tazer and JSCAN just to make sure I bought all the things.

Listen to @THAW not me. Although he has at two projects that have fast approaching deadlines so we don’t want to sidetrack him too much

I bought the OBD 2 reader you linked and the Chrysler plug JScan recommends so keep an eye out I’ll be asking questions!
