I literally just spent the last 6 hours reading through backspacing threads and I feel as if I lost a few brain cells in the process. I just bought a 2020 Rubicon and I plan on running 315/70/17 KO2’s on it. I will most likely never do a lift but if I do it will be something mild. I want to keep the rim in the fenders as close to stock as possible. I was looking at the Icon Rebound but that I believe will put the wheel well out of the flares? Can anyone recommend what backspacing I should be trying to look for?

I had an Lj prior to this and I don’t recall it being nearly as much as a pain looking for wheels for it.

If you want to keep the wheels in the fender as close to stock a possible, I suggest keeping the stock ones. Tires will stick out 0.59" more than stock.
I don't know if you will have ribbing issues.
I guess someone with a similar set up will chime in soon.

Have you seen this calculator?

Have you seen this calculator: https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/

The measurements for the wheel you described are 315/70/17 and a quick internet search indicates the offset on those wheels is -6 for a total backspacing of -4.5, which is normal for a non-lifted Jeep. If you find and plug in your current tire size and wheel offset, you'll get an image comparison of what is happening.

Good Luck!

Yes, that was one of the many I read through today, the -6 just seems like it will push the tire way out.

here is the tire stick out with a 12.5 width Cooper Pro, AEV JL Pintler 8.5 wide wheel. If I remember correctly this wheel is 5.77 BS +25 offset. Calculator below says this combo sticks out 1.5" more than stock.

I believe the stock JL wheel has a +44.5 offset. Calculator below should give you an idea as to how the wheel/tire combo you choose will change.

Should be a good plan w/ stock suspension, as you go up in lift you have to go less positive on the offset. That 8.5 +25 is a nice fit on the Stock Rubicon running 315/70s, might have to go to offsets in the +10 range if you go up 1.5" lift, and a zero offset if you go to a 2.5".

Coming from a Lj I am new on some of this. I am assuming the less positive offset is due to lower control are clearances on the lift? I will most likely not lift it but I will probably be going with aftermarket arms to gain some more caster.

Don’t mind the messy garage.

AEV spec’d their JL wheels with +25 offset. Give them a call and ask one of their wheel techs about fitment.

+25 works on my JLR with a Mopar lift and 37’s. AEV can tell you about your tire choice.

Backspace and offset can definitely be confusing. For example, a 20x9 with 4.5-inch BS fits different than a 20x10 with 4.5-inch BS. The inside clearance (towards suspension) between the two sizes are the same but the 20x10 will sit further out, specifically by 1-inch.

If you're looking to keep the tire/wheel assembly within the fenders as much as possible, a narrower width wheel with higher offset is the way to go.

On a side note for those not familiar how to convert wheel offset into backspace, check out the basic write-up below:
