Quick run down,

Bought a CPO 2021 JL Sport w/ 37K miles last month from a Jeep dealership in CA and in less than a month had to take it to service due to a whining noise when driving. After dropping off the Jeep with a service appointment it took more than 3 days for a tech to even look at it as it sat on the lot. And they say that the entire rear axle assembly needs a replacement due to an internal failure. Thankfully covered under warranty but wtf for a car that passed CPO inspection? Now waiting on the replacement part.

Service advisor says waiting on ETA for the part and that it showed 7 days out just need confirmation. Okay cool a week isn't too bad I guess

Fast forward a week and still no updates so I check in again and this time the service advisor says still waiting on ETA for the part and that it shows 45+ days when placing the order... 45+ DAYS

So I'm looking at months for this rear axle replacement? Of course they don't have a loaner or rental program so I'm without my car for an unknown amount of time right now.

This is the first Jeep I ever bought so most likely will be my last, as it's really starting off on the wrong foot.

Is there anything that can be done to expedite the replacement part? The Jeep is just sitting at the dealership and I can't drive the Jeep as that will void the warranty coverage if I continue to drive the vehicle and needs to be on their lot to be in queue for the repair

Am I overreacting and miraculously the part can become available earlier?

I'm even considering a lemon law buy back if more weeks go by and we're still waiting on the part

Has anyone gone through that before? Do I need to wait for Jeep to try and "fix" the vehicle first before that can apply?

@JeepCares might be able to step in and help, especially in dealing with a loaner. But then again it's a CPO, so maybe all of that is handled by the dealer. Hopefully it's corporate.

Did they explicitly say you can't drive it? That (and the queue crap) seems fucked up.

You might want to find out what exactly is messed up or what they think is messed up that would make it a whole rear end swap. Nothing I can think of other than a bad housing would warrant that. And if they were swapping out the whole rear end then yeah that I would think could take a min for the whole thing to come in. At that point I would see if you could have them drop in something bigger like the M220 (D44) and pay the difference assuming yours came with the M200. There is rental car coverage for “overnight stays” but no car loaners on CPOs. This or the likes has become very common across the board.

as far as lemon law that varies state to state so you would have to check on CA laws. Normally it’s only on new cars and only after a failed third repair for the same item. But like I said each state is kind of different. Also check on your buyers/sellers agreement regarding buy backs. I got out of a 4xe that had been flooded (still had a clean title) and not disclosed to the dealership that sold it to me or so they say. But I read the fine print and well they had to buy it back. But that dealership is very good or has been to me anyways. Don’t let this discourage you though. Jeeps and the brand have been getting a bad rep and I’d say that more to do with dealers these days being shitty to customers. Nothing to do with the brand itself.

hope this helps

Can you take it some where else to be repaired and have the warranty reimburse the cost?

I would take it to a drive line shop. The time and money you would save on a rental would more than cover any expense.

Not sure how a whining noise would void your warranty when they have already ordered the part. You are not overreacting. I would consider a lawyer to get rid of this "CPO" headache.

Get a second opinion preferably from an independent shop. Assuming you are paying to finance your 2021 and paying to rent another vehicle, any “savings” from the CPO warranty evaporates very quickly sadly.

The CPO is a manufacturers CPO not dealer but yeah I've contacted @JeepCares still waiting and calling corporate but getting ping ponged around

I was considering of upgrading to a beefier rear axle during this but with the lack of communication and help from service/dealership/Stellantis I don't want to complicate anything. Just want my issue fixed and have the car back

How did you find out your 4xe was flooded later?

The lemon law can be used if car spends longer than 30 days in the shop and works for new or used so it is an option but I'm hoping I don't have to resort to that

I would think it really wouldn't make a difference as the service dept is telling me it's ordered just on back order with no ETA timeline and they've contacted all nearby dealerships and shops for parts

It's covered under Jeep manufacturer warranty so only Jeep dealerships would be covered

Exact words from service advisor: "You can pick up the car but warranty has the right to refuse warranty repairs if vehicle is continued to be driven, also parts request will lose priority if the vehicle is not here at the service department with risk of warranty coverage"

I would look into the lemon laws for your specific state. Or use that as leverage…

So the dealer I got it from (Non Jeep Dealer)had a few things they had to fix before delivery. They took it to Jeep to get the stuff fixed, said it would be three days, Cool needed it the next week for a trip. Center stack and Mode/fuel switch pack needed to be swapped. Jeep was still very much drivable. Just could not change modes and had to manually release fuel door and gas up REAL SLOW. No big deal. Well, Jeep came back, said parts would be two weeks. Cant take loaner out of state. So I asked, they agreed that I would pick up the Jeep and once I got back I would drop it back off to get the switches replaced and a recall performed. Go on a trip and everything at first is fine. Day two on the trip, we go to leave the hotel, and she won't shift out of park. Had to manually release that. Had to do this about 50% of the time. Called the selling dear and let them know what was going on. Being they had a warranty on it (90 day/3k miles bumper to bumper) they said they would have jeep look at it while doing the other work when I got back. Jump forward a week and I get back. I go to leave in the morning to go drop it off and when I get there and shut it off I hear not the SWISHING SOUND people get, but what sounds like water being poured into a bucket sitting in the back seat. So I tell them. Said they would have that checked also. Jeep has it two weeks with not much word from them to me or the dealership. Get word it's ready and go pickup. Jeep said that the switch for the brake peddle need to be replaced to solve the shifting issue, The water sound was the HV Battery heater leaking. That got replaced. I drive it for a week and notice the coolant for the heater is low. Ok Jeep Tech didn't bleed all the air out, most likely. Call my dealer, let them know, and they tell me to just take it to Jeep and tell them what's going on, and it was on my dealer's account. Cool, go to leave and it won't shift. Shit. Get to Jeep and when I pull in and shut it off it sounds like a waterfall in the back seat. I let Jeep know what's going on and get that sorted. Go over to the dealer and let them know what had just happened and get a loaner. Fast-forward three days I think and I call Jeep for an update. I get informed that they are investigating it as a flood vehicle and the factory warranty will most likely be revoked. They are 10 min away from my work, so I just go up there and the Tech walks me through what he has found. Inside the dash, the metal frame is rusted out. Not surface rust, flaking apart rusted. He never mentioned that before. Everything underneath all the heat shields that you can't really inspect with taking stuff apart is all rusted, packed with sand and salt. The radiator had some small leaks due to corrosion. Mind you, I looked it over before I bought it and could find no tale signs of any abuse. It only had 8k miles on and was 4 years old. Everything you would be able to see looking it over without seriously dismantling stuff looked showroom. So what was found out from this, The Jeep belonged to the wife of the GM of the selling dealer. It was her toy... for the beach... she flooded it in the damn surf most likely and then went and had it Big Money Cleaned. Well, she didn't get her moneys worth and started having issue. Didn't say shit to her husband (so he claimed) and had him trade it and sale the damn thing at the dealership he ran. And I say ran because he no work there anymore! Well anyway after Jeep gave me their report I went back over to the dealer showed them the finding + what I found, and they did a rewind. Undisclosed major damage. Even a guy from corporate came down to look at it and said it was fucked! The estimated price in parts and labor could have bought a brand new one just about. Sad part is the two weeks I drove it, I LOVED the 4xe. Was going to buy a 24 4xe Rub X but after a potential refresh happening (or so they had said)I decided to just go ICE to see what they end up with. I do regret that. The one I was looking at, they dropped the price to 50k right after I bought my current. Had also considered the 41 Willy's, but I just could not do that tan cloth interior with my kids.

If they were already ordered, this is irrelevant. Sounds like they are blowing smoke up your butt.
