This is a bit of a weird situation. . .

Today, after over an hour of driving and listening to FM radio, the volume suddenly increased. The radio got noticeably louder (like turning it up 3-4 notches). When this happened, the radio didn't display the little volume bar on the top of the screen as you would expect with a manual volume change.

It did this three times today and once on Friday. My son was with me and observed the behavior, so I know I'm not crazy.

Anybody have this happen?

8.4" (or whatever) radio- no XM subscription and was on the FM station. Had my iPhone plugged in for nav, but wasn't using audio from it. Radio is fairly new as the dealer replaced it about 8,000 miles ago.

Should add - I have the speed sensitive volume turned on, but that should be decreasing the volume when I get to a stoplight, not increasing it. This happened three times and two of them were when slowing/stopping for a red light. Can't remember where the third occurrence was.

Mine does the opposite, volume goes lower for some reason. This is on all inputs audio options, not just iphone.

That sounds like the Speed Sensitive Volume option is turned on.

I’ve been having the same problem recently, but only when using CarPlay. Started happening after I switched over to iOS 15 and an iPhone 13.

Ok. This might be the issue.
I never had this problem until late last week. I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 15 early in the week.

I have the issue both before and after iPhone iOS upgrade and regardless of input. If I put it in park sometimes the volume just 'goes up'.

Does the radio change volume only when your phone is plugged in?

Interesting. The same happened to me today and I thought I imagined it. While I was getting to a stop in my garage, the volume increased a bit. I had my Samsung S21 plugged in, using Android Auto.

Same here. Whenever I plug my phone in the volume of SXM decreases noticeably, then after a few minutes it starts surging up and down.

Just curious if this issue was ever fixed. My 2022 Rubi does this. I can even get the volume to go back down to where it was by turning the knob to the right. So weird and it will do this randomly when I come to a stop...Very annoying when I lower the radio all the way down to talk to security and it randomly just starts playing loudly on its own.

Make sure the volume on your phone is all the way up after you connect it to the radio. Bluetooth or wired doesn't matter. I bet for most of you what is happening is the phone is actually changing volume, not the radio...that's why you don't get the volume popup on the radio.
