Anyone chanced their evap canister yet? I got P0456 today; going to change the cap and can. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Wi-Tech can run a small leak verification test that both confirms the integrity of the ESIM, purge solenoid, and vapor system. If a leak is present it will fail at the vapor system check.

I strongly suggest properly diagnosing this concern before throwing any parts at the issue. There's been multiple PCM updates available for P0456 as well. A dealer can run the test, verify no fault is actually present, and then update the PCM for you if it is available. If an ESIM or purge solenoid has failed, the test will indicate so. Very rarely do I find actual evap leaks on JLs. It's usually software or a cap not properly tightened.

I agree! Mine throws the P0456 code exactly 300 miles every time after disconnecting/replacing the batteries.
After clearing the code, it’s all good until the next time I work on the batteries.

Once upon a time there a bulletin for erroneous P0456 codes. They said anytime the battery has been disconnected you should cycle the key to the ON position for a few seconds, cycle it back off, then start the car. Some PCM logic after a battery disconnection would cause it to lock up if the key wasn't cycled once before starting the vehicle and cause it to throw that code.

Not sure if it still applies, but food for thought

Why would you immediately jump to replacing the most expensive parts without testing anything? Good lord.

So instead of replacing the evap can; I replaced the gas cap. Problem solved/code cleared/light is off.

Thanks for all your responses!

Did you find anything wrong with it or just randomly replace a part and clear faults?

To be fair I've seen a lot of bad gas caps recently. Sometimes when you tighten them if you try to loosen it you'll find it just pops right off rather than unscrewing as you'd suspect.

You can test yours by tightening it passed the click then backing it off a couple of times. If even once it pops right off with it loosening properly it's going bad
