Hello all, I’m back to the group with a new to me 2018 sport s 2 door. Previously I leased a 21 jlu islander in 2021 and last year I had a 20 gladiator. Both of those cars had the 7” uconnect..
The 2018 I have now came with the 5” radio. I noticed that the USB ports both at the media cover and inside the console didn’t work. The media port lights up fine so there’s power.
Today, I swapped to a 7” radio. Same issue. Doing some diagnosing, I realized that if I unplugged the usb cable from the back of the headunit.. the media ports both usbc and usb would charge the phone. I plugged the usb cable back into the headunit and the ports went dead again. The 7” uconnect shows usb error in the media portion.
I know that a lot of people have had USB port issues at some point being familiar with these vehicles.. I just don’t understand why the ports would charge the phone when it was unplugged from the headunit and go dead when the usb was plugged into the headunit.
Any thoughts on what to replace?
