I've never really been a huge gamer, that being said I definitely spent quite a bit of time gaming in the past. But it's always when I don't have anything to do.

They recently came out with that Starfield game, and though I'm not really super into the idea of getting into a super in-depth game like that, I do really want to play it. Bethesda has always been my favorite video game designer. The elder scrolls series is my bread and butter when it comes to video games. That and the battlefield series.

I don't have any consoles, I sold them all back in 2019. Cuz I never played them. My brother had made me this tower PC back in 2018 so that I could play world of Warcraft, which I did for like 6 months. Pretty much I only ever play video games in the winter when it's too cold to be working on the Jeep without a heated garage.

Here's a layout of my build as of this evening when my power core and upgraded RAM comes in:https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vKW689

Everything's a little bit old, and I'm not trying to play Starfield at its highest settings, I just need something that can handle it for a year or two. By then my Wrangler should be about where I want it to be for a good 3 or 4 years, and I can really get into enjoying off-roading, and traveling with it, and also I can focus a lot more of my resources towards building a new tower PC.

Basically the PC is pretty decent at its basics, really I just needed the new Nvidia RTX 2080, which my friend down in San Antonio was nice enough to ship me a spare one he had.

After installing it and looking at the specs of everything, I realized my power core (Corsair SF450) wasn't going to be enough. So while trying to figure out which power core would be sufficient and would work with the rest of the hardware I have, I came across the Corsair SF850L which is about 300W more than I need for this current setup. $160 on Amazon, not that bad. Plus I'm hoping that when I build my next tower in two or three years, I can transfer over this Corsair 850 and use it in the next build.

While I did have some pretty decent ram in the tower already (Corsair Vengeance 8GB x2 3000MHz DDR4) I wanted to get something maybe a little bit higher end. Something that I could put in the next tower I build that would be good for at least a year or two until I would need to upgrade to DDR5. My current motherboard only accepts DDR4, so there was really no point in going out and buying DDR5. That's why I ended up purchasing this guy:

The sweet spot on DDR4 for gaming from what I can figure out seems to be 3200MHz assuming you're not overclocking. And then after that it's basically DDR5 at 6000MHz. I don't know, don't quote me on that last part. I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around and backed into the world of computers.

I'll say this much though, compared to working on the Jeep, computers are so straightforward and super easy. There's no "well this didn't work, let's try this!" or any "crap how am I going to make this work, these parts don't line up." It's basically there's one way to do it, and if it doesn't work you need to buy something else to make it work.

Working on the Jeep there's a whole lot more fudge factor in everything, and there's usually a couple different ways to go about installing something.

That being said, I most definitely jerry-rigged the shit out of my GPU into this tiny tight little casing I'm using. It works, but I'll definitely need to buy a slightly longer screw in the near future if I want to secure the case properly.
