Generally Cheap sh*t aint good, and good Sh*t aint cheap.

I would encourage you to explore other, better known brands.. even rugged ridge or smittybilt are likely a little better quality. For a few hundred bucks more you can find a better know brand that will likely be more robust (powder-coat longevity, quality recovery points). There is allot of truth to the buy once cry once approach.

I would also do a little research on sliders vs running boards. If you plan to actually wheel, it is worth investing in some decent sliders. Once you cave your running board into the door sill, you are going to be in for more $ than you would have been just buying good sliders to begin with.

All that said.. if you just want to make the jeep look cool, and explore some fire roads.. that stuff is probably perfect and will get you out there and having fun.

The steps or the bumpers? I would not expect terrible issues with the bumper, but definitely with the running boards.

Fl wheeling is also a little different to the rocks out west...

Also, are you going to have other folks with you? Or just you and some friends in your Jeep? I ask because, 1) offroading should generally be done with others for safety reasons, but also 2) You'll want to make sure have some other items like snatch blocks and tree savers, especially if you're solo. And if you're in mud with nothing solid to winch too, the winch doesn't do you much good, which is where another vehicle on dry land can be real handy. =)

Now if you're just doing really light stuff, and this is all just to be able to do your trip, I'm sure it will be fine. But if you plan on doing more later, you may find your replacing a lot of stuff down the road, which just adds further to the expense. Been down that road more than once.

Family trip out to Cali...heading back through Utah and Colorado....not planning anything crazy, just some light trails and sand dunes, ya know? My hubby and boys will be with me, but no other vehicles. The winch is mainly for mud being a solo vehicle in the Midwest/Central US...so I'm not too worried about lack of trees....but i had thought of the tree savers. The Jeep is going to also be my daily driver, so looking at more lightweight options that won't destroy my gas mileage, but still give me a bit of protection....I want to have fun, but not completely beat it up (while knowing full well that literally anything could happen)

It sucks when all my past offroad experience is dirtbikes/dune buggy/atv....cuz none of those "get outs" work for a Jeep lol, but my biggest fear from a cost standpoint is going way overboard for my needs, not the cost of getting the right equipment for them.

Also, to put it in perspective- when I was looking at "higher cost/quality" stuff, I came across Tyger and saw that those items had really good reviews on Amazon, but not a lot of "practical use" type feedback. I'm by no means looking for the cheapest option, but if it's affordable and fits my needs, then yay!

I would encourage you not to buy bigger jeep parts like bumpers on amazon. Generally its cheaper stuff for folks who are chasing the offroad look more than anything else.

There are some awesome jeep specific sellers that have great knowledge and really good support. Give the guys at Northridge 4x4 a call. They know a ton and have a really great reputation in the jeep community. T

Both. Most high end stuff is made the same way the reason behind the high price is branding and sponsorship. It kinda like Nike you pay for the check mark. We all know they are made in China by children.

Have you considered junkyards to see if you can happen to come across a jeep with a steel bumper? Maybe even a rubicon with rails? Or even an aftermarket winch capable bumper? You never know what you'll find there, I ran across geared and locked Dana 44 set a while back. Walked out for under $400 with gears/lockers/axle upgrades :D

And I totally get the budget thing, you can only work with what you have to work with. With that said, there's also the come-a-long. It kinda sucks, but it works if you need it. Just be safe. Anything can happen on the trail, even something as trivial as a sensor failing, and if you don't have someone with you or that you can call, it can be a nightmare...a 4 hour trudge through Miami everglades to get to a phone because there was no cell service will make you hesitant to do that again. :D

I also used to frequent the naxja.com forums a lot. Between there and here, you might some folks to show you around. I lived in San Diego and used to love running Big Bear. Beautiful scenery, a wide variety of trails, and should be excellent weather at the end of spring.

For the record- I wasn't looking ON Amazon- that's just where I found the reviews. I originally saw it on Vivid Racing. I really do appreciate everyone's input and I've been mad researching everyone's recommendations ?

I lived about 20 min outside of Batstow as a teenager, and most of my extended family is through there and and the Lancaster/Palmdale area. Big Bear (which i loved as a kid...the lake...the wolves...everything!!) and Tehachapi were definitely places we were planning to hit ...the Calico hills when we take the kids to the ghost town and Dumont Dunes on the way out to DV and Vegas

The Calico hills will probably be the rockiest shit I hit...but I know those runs like the back of my hand.

My grandpa went to Peggy Sue's every single morning for an iced tea for 15 years. We lived halfway between there and the old water park at Lake Dolores. Back then it was legit and gorgeous....the gardens in the back were super lush- tons of fish, turtles...and then the original owners sold it and it went downhill

I have the side steps you linked on my '20 Sport S 4-door. I love them. I get no flex at all. The twin tube design and the star cutouts are nice because it lets snow and crap kind of fall through. I did get one spot where the coating flaked off. Drivers side, right where the driver steps had a section flake and started to surface rust a bit. I sanded down the area till the flaky part was gone (maybe half dollar sized) and then sprayed it with some rustoleum black I had around and it matched perfect and have not problems since. Overall though I have been happy with them and they have been on for just about 2 years. I would probably but their stuff again.

The only thing I wasnt 100% liking in the begining was how visible the pinch weld/bolts were. My original plan was to just spray the pinch weld area black or use a spray undercoat in that area but I have not done that yet and to be honest I barely notice now lol.
