So, my battery passed the 68C recall without replacement. We recently went on a road trip that was around 20 hours round trip. We took the Jeep in the event that we would run into snowy weather, which we did. I didn't take into consideration the "what if" I got a CEL and the HV battery needed to be replaced? I know, my bad, but fortunately we did not have any issues. This will be a concern for as long as I/we own these vehicles. Should we trust that we can take them on a trip away from home and not get stranded? I imagine that the Jeep would have to go to the nearest dealer with a HV tech. Then what? Even if a loaner is provided, you will have to go home at some point with your Jeep XXX miles away. What a mess that would be.

Agree, and we are often not taking the vehicles to the most urban areas...

Never thought of that option. Next time I’m stranded XXX miles in the Nevada desert I should contact Stellantis for a loaner. But do try to keep it all in perspective. There are a host of low probability failures - that’s why I read this forum - that could ruin your day.

I’ll give you an example I came across a couple weeks ago. Preparing before my last trip I was trying to trace a wiring short in one of my fog lamps. Those wires go through a multi pin connector behind the passenger side wheel well (actually there are two of them there) that has been under water and gets its share of dirt and mud.

Anyway I wasn’t able to pull apart this connector but I jostled the connections enough that I triggered a whole bunch of CEL lights, including the red turtle. I think the critical failure in this case was in the radiator fan circuit which uses some of the many wires going through this connector, but the point is that a short or break in just one exposed wire could leave you on the side of the road - nothing to do with the hybrid.

I just took my Jeep to the dealer for its 68c firmware update Thursday. Picked it up about four hours later, but nothing else exciting has happened yet.

It's definitely very risky business driving the 4xe beyond the city limits, especially me driving to the US, which we did frequently before these recalls.

It's one thing being out of state, imagine being out of country with a failed 4xe.

I take the odd solo trip into the US with it, but not family vacations.

I took mine on a 4 day road trip about 3 weeks after the recall. Didn't sweat since I was still somewhat near civilization the whole time. It's still a calculated risk even before the recent recall.

If you charge your battery pack regularly it will fail about every 3 years on average with the most recently software thresholds.

If you don't ever charge it, it'll probably last awhile.

I must have got a dud because I only charged mine regularly for about 3 months (it's not a year old yet) and it failed shortly after 68C software update.
