Trunk/ Cargo 12V outlet capacity?

Hello,

I got a question regarding the cargo 12v outlet. The one I have configured as always on even when fhe engine is off the opposite of the front Aux switches and 12v.

So I made some led lighting setup for my camping trips using the cargo 12v.

My question is what is the capacity of the source? is it using the small battery or the main one?

What if I use it for long periods what is worst case scenario?

The rear cargo 12V outlet can be configured 'always on' or 'ignition on'. This is done in the PDC fuse area by changing the position of the F43/F45 fuse.

The fuse is 20 Amps however the maximum allowed power for the circuit is 13 amps or 160 watts.

A new battery for this vehicle has a rating of around 60 amp-hours. That means if you draw 6 amps for 10 hours it will be dead (or 3 amps for 20 hours for example). If your battery is not new, the capacity will be less and it will go dead sooner. Also keep in mind that 70-80% discharged may not start your vehicle.

I believe the source for the 12V outlets is the main battery, but as the two batteries are often electrically tied together I wouldn't count on the small battery for a guaranteed start.

Many folks add a lithium battery in the cargo area that charges off the built-in 12V aux jack (configured to 'ignition on'). That way the Lithium battery charges while you are driving and you can't accidentally discharge your main battery while parked.

Isn't it half that since it's really bad on an AGM to drain it past half?

Agreed - while the vehicle may start, the deeper discharge levels take a major toll on the battery life, especially on our lead-acid AGM non-deep cycle batteries.
