I feel my stock 2 door rubicon can get me through just about any trail in Southern California, maybe save for John Bull and Holcomb in big bear. After wheeling the last couple weekends on miller / Lockwood, cleghorn, Pilot rock, gold mountain, and a couple others with a few other jeeps (a 2dr JK sport on 33s and a JLU Sahara limited slip on 33s) I really enjoyed hitting some of the more challenging black diamond offshoots with confidence and no violent bouncing/wheelspin situations. Just lock up and climb. Slipped off a rock once and kissed the front axle pumpkin, but other than that one moment I felt like I had more than enough clearance and rubber to get me through. The JLU with us was scraping on tons of stuff, but we got him through nonetheless.

All depends on your situation, region, and intention with the Jeep IMO. The 2 door Rubi for me feels plenty capable - I’ll probably jump to 35s before I take on John Bull and holcomb, but other than some proper frame mounted rock rails I don’t feel like I need any additional performance. I would have regretted getting a Sport or a Sahara for my specific application tho.

I'm surprised we don't have a matching "You don't need a 3.6L" thread or a "save your money and get a stick shift" thread.. hrm.. wait we kinda do have those lol.

Nobody posts those threads about wasting money on rubber floormats though.

Why buy a Rubicon when VW Baja's are all over your local junkyard?

It's the Rubicon of the VW bug world?
