The reason I suggest removing bolts of hardtop to lift...because the one thing stopping you from getting it in without doing that is the rear window! the corners of the hardtop are narrower than the soft top frame (they curl around to the rear gate)so you would have to lift it to get the soft top as it is into that space in back of the seats. hopefully you understand what I'm saying. I think it can be done though.

Many moons ago I bought a new TJ Sahara with dual tops and the mounted soft top fit (folded) inside the mounted hard top. I’d check to see if that’s an option. If so make the dealer install prior to your arrival

This is what I'm thinking. Remove the hardtop, slide the soft top on and then reinstall the hard top. Just like a TJ. I was just hoping someone could confirm it in fact fits from experience and the soft top isn't too wide.

I believe your right it will sit there no problem! Can it be attached..... nope! the legs sit snugly on the outside of the roll bars ..do bring towels to wrap the bars so they don't bang against the side windows. But yeah it looks like it would def fit. You just have to lift the top to get it in there, just enough to get the legs and folded soft top under and then bolt it back up. be on your way.

Does anyone know If there is a way to transport a soft top with the hard top on with the back seat up? We just ordered a JL with the dual top group and planned on bringing the kids to pick it up not realizing that to shipping box took up the entire cargo area. I know the soft top won’t fit installed under the hard top but is there enough room to squeeze it between the rear roll cage and hard top rear window uninstalled?
Soft top cannot by transported in orginal box in a four-door, without folding down rear seats, with hard top on.

Original box does fit if you fold the seats; that's how I transported mine.

It might fit standing vertically, without hardtop.

Actually, if you attach the softtop, fold it all the way down, and then attach the hard top, it fits. There are two in my vicinity that I occasionally see like that in the winter, and it always gives me a laugh.

It *might* fit by hanging diagonally up, out the rear windshield, and tying it down. I could try to measure if you want, as I've still the original box.

It would also fit if you left the tailgate open, but then you'd need a hitch bed-extender, and probably need to remove the spare to minimize chances of getting a ticket.

Easiest: Kid that did the most chores that week gets to go pickup, and gets the first open-air ride.

I see new posts above questioning if the soft top will fit, folded down, beneath the hard top.

I will say it does, having seen them in the wild. I do not know how they did it. I do not know why they did it. I have not tried it.

Up to you if you want to take an internet stranger's word on it.

Thanks all. I know you can do it in the TJ and JK so I figured the JL is no difference. worst case I guess we get some type of roof storage or rent a car.

I like the taking one kid idea but it's turned in to a trip to catch some minor league baseball and see some colleges. If the kids still want to be with Dad in a Jeep I'll take it

As noted, if all else fails a small u haul trailer will work and allow you to bring the whole family.

I just shipped a mounted set of Ram 22s at 85 lbs a piece UPS ground from CLt to Chicago of $60 each using a business account. May not be that bad if the dealer will ship for you using their parts account.
UPS/FedEx wont take something as big as a boxed top.

I think renting a small Uhaul is the best option here. Youl could ask dealer to have it shipped LTL, but the way freight is moving right now, you might not see it again and if you do, there's a good chance it'll be damaged.

Another option is uship. I haven’t used it personally, but a friend of mine had an assembled big green egg shipped that way.

You can post the request, and may be able to have a car or horse transporter throw it in their trailer on a similar route.

I bought my jeep w/ dual top. The box is insane. If you remove the items and take the windows out of their box it will take up a lot less room, but too much to not have the seats folded down. You could get by with the small seat up and the top in the back and 70% seat folded down, but that might be in the way of your kid depending on he/her age.

When I got my jeep wife dropped me off and then drove home separately, but it was only 1.5hr away. You cannot install the softtop and have the hardtop on like the JKs. The cheapest I've seen the premium softtop new is just over $2000, so buying with the jeep is a little over $1000 savings.

I've heard that Greyhound will ship stuff too. Might be something to look into. Rumor has it they are very reasonable. If it's still in the box, it would easily fit under the carriage. Google greyhound package shipment.
