Transmission fluid type?

What transmission fluid should be used on the automatic transmission? Also, is the Mopar ATF4 appropriate for it? Have a leak so it’s getting changed.

ATF+4 is NOT the correct fluid. Either Mopar 8+9 speed fluid or ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid.

The ZF8 also has a special process for refilling after a fluid dump.

Yep; it's a good price. I paid $145 for 8.

It's not a recommended ATF for the ZF 8AT, if you want to go outside from the Lifeguard & Mopar ATF, then maybe look at Redline, in the OEM compatibility it lists the Jeep ZF 8/9 spd in their chart.

It's about $15 qt on amazon, but for just about $3 more I'd just get the Lifeguard 8, I mean it's not something you'll do often so making 100% sure it's the proper fluid is worth that small upcharge IMO.

It's in all the JLs AFAIK. There may be different model numbers but they're all ZF 8 speeds that require the same ATF.

I know that the 850RE Torqueflite is licensed by ZF but didn't know that it is an actual ZF like the 8HP75 is.

Looks like it's an HP50 for the non diesels

Thanks. So the ZF 8HP50 is the same thing as the Torqueflite 850RE?
