I have been noticing a slight 'burning oil' odor when coming off the highway and parking, nothing leaking on the ground so thought I might have spilled a little oil on the driveshaft when removing the oil filter last weekend during first oil change and then it kicked up on the exhaust...Nope, everything including filter and Stahlbus oil drain valve dry as a bone as I carefully inspected before installing the Artec oil pan skid.
Dry as a bone...
What I did find was was a leak where the transfer case mates to the transmission
Decided not to install the Artec skid plate today as I didn't want to give anyone a reason to say 'your skid trapped heat and caused the seal failure' or such nonsense. On the bright side (*I always try and find a bright side) when holding the skid in place I wasn't thrilled with how 'shiny' it looked underneath the Jeep so now I have time to powder coat it before install
Where transmission mates to transfer case...
