Does the automatic trans share fluid with the transfer case. My trans died and the tech said there were metal shavings in the trans; could these migrate to the transfer case?

Definitely 2 separate units. I doubt they share fluids. I’m not 100% sure with the cooling systems that they’re not winding up together though.
Hang loose, there’s people in these rooms that know their s**t !

What symptoms did you have on the trans before it went out? Curious as I've got a small noise in mine.

No symptoms until just before it died. At that point it would have a few second delay when shifting from park to reverse; or reverse to drive. Then it would buck like it didn’t know what gear it wanted to be in. Engine light came on and it threw some error codes related to the trans.

No, they are separate. Shavings from the trans will not make into the transfer case. They do not share fluid.

No, the transfer case is separate.
There WILL be shavings in the lines and trans cooler though. If that's not properly flushed, or just straight up replaced, it could end up bad again.

There's normally a fairly large donut shaped magnet in the transmission pan, this is to prevent any metal shavings from floating about in the transmission.
