Trailer brake controller

Simple question I can’t seem to get a straight answer to, are you still able to get a factory order wrangler with the trailer brake controller installed, or is it a dealer installed option now?

If only dealer installed now… why?

As far as I am aware, a brake controller for the Wrangler is not offered from Jeep. You can install one yourself or take it to a trailer sales location. I would not ask the dealership to install one because of the very high costs from most dealerships.

Edit: Jeep did sell a 7-pin connector trailer light kit which I installed on my JK.

I know that they still actually sell a controller for it, but it no longer seems to be a factory option.

There is a trailer brake control kit available thru Jeep parts but not as an option on a new vehicle. You have to remove the cigarette lighter and the knob goes into that location in the dash. I read thru the instructions once and it seemed like something that could be done in an afternoon by yourself or any reputable shop.

If you have the factory tow package, the Mopar trailer brake controller is plug and play.
If you don’t have the factory tow package then it’s several hours to install the Mopar trailer wiring, trailer brake control wiring and brake controller.

I’ve done both and prefer the finished look to the RedArc I put in my wife’s 4xE.

Agreed, with the tow package/harness factory installed, it take all of 5 min to install almost any brake controller. I also did the RedArc, love the look/size and ease.....the longest part was trying to determine where to install the dial.
I need up putting to the lower right of the steering wheel. Out of the way but still easy to get at.

Mopar controller was not compatible with 2018 JLU (?@!?), nor did I have factory harness.
I installed a Mopar harness, somewhat later the Redarc controller. Controller wiring was straighforward once I figured out (various forum post) where to find signal wire and ground post). I replaced the cig lighter with the controller (clean look) following Redarc video. Pulling cig lighter was easy with $10 special tool.

Interesting that a good few of you prefer the redarc. Would you mind giving a picture of your dial so I can picture how clean it looks?

Can the redarc use the factory wiring?

I have the Mopar controller in my '22 Rubicon with the factory tow package. Installed it myself pretty easily. Hardest part was removing the damn power outlet. Even with a removal tool, it fought me hard. I have a Redarc in my Grand Cherokee, but preferred the clean, factory look of this for my Rubicon.

If you need a cigarette plug you can leave it connected add a extension to it run it where you want

Yes it plugs right into the factory harness (takes literally 30 min to install, mount the mudule and drill the hole.)

I put it a little farther to the side, and I included the rectangle base to make it look stock.
