My understanding is eTorque is really just a bad ass electronic stop start. If it fails on the trail it is not gonna leave you stranded. But I could be wrong.

I'd be more worried about skid plates than deep water.
Yeah I think skids make sense.

Well doesn’t the etorque replace the alternator, not sure what happens if you experience a failure out on the trail…

This is a good overview of what it does:https://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/tools/articles.aspx?article=Wrangler_Etorque_Technology&type=1

What is Jeep Wrangler's eTorque Mild Hybrid Technology?
New 2019 and 2020 Jeep Wrangler has an innovative eTorque Mild Hybrid system that has improved fuel economy without sacrificing power, torque, or capability. It requires no additional effort by the driver and is part of both the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine and the Turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine.

The new Jeep eTorque mild hybrid system is a replacement for the traditional alternator. It sports a belt-driven motor generator unit that executes several different functions.”

I try to go basic where I can. I have had all the bells and whistles on a variety of vehicles. Eventually those "extras" are the things failing. Every Jeep has dozens of potential failure points, there is no avoiding it no matter which model/options you choose.

We stayed pretty basic with our Rubicon, just a couple options on it and the V6 manual trans.
To add to your point, I like technology when it brings a clear and obvious advantage (and, I am in the tech space). If there is a simpler alternative with less points of failure, it is inherently more reliable. Modern vehicles are already “computers with wheels,” so there is no getting around the use of technology …
