Yes, but you’d still prefer charging them than carrying around a 500lbs dead weight for no reason other than it possibly catching fire?
IDK if you've driven one, but when the battery is at 1%, I don't think it's actually at 1%. It'll still shut the engine off at a stop and give you a little push when you let off the brake and hit the gas, just like the "etorque" models do.

I remember the one I rented for a few days used the electric motor a lot more than I expected because I got it "empty" and never charged it in the time I had it lol.

On a sorta related note, I wonder how reliable the etorque models are? From everything I've seen and heard, that implementation of start-stop is actually pretty good.

I’ve been a 4xe owner, yes, both on and off-road, during my days of living in Chicago and off-roading in Michigan, Indianapolis, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Anyway, as I said before, I’ve always loved the idea of the 4xe, had it actually worked properly in reality. Unfortunately, the technology and especially the software, was launched prematurely and with a lack of quality controls. Classic Stellantis + complex drivetrain = disaster.

also keep in mind the reason that even at <1% the HV battery still works is because it is always receiving a small charge during ICE operation, as designed. That means that theoretically, the fire risk is still there, even at <1%. Stellantis won’t tell you this for corporate and legal reasons.

Wait till you find out the gas ones are pretty much the same, just different problems.
The 2024+ 4XE has the following recalls:

A loss of power while driving
Battery pack that can catch fire
Engine that can catch fire

Note that only the 4XE 2.0s have the engine fire recall, the ICEs are fine. Quality issues that the ICEs may have are much different than the giant safety issues of a 4XE.

1% is actually 20%. It keeps a good chunk in reserve for that start/stop functionality that you described, among other things.

Congrats!

I got a call today that my new ICE Jeep is going to be built shortly. I really hope I don't get too raked over the coals with the trade in. And I don't really have a choice because the nearest Carvana and Carmax are 4 hours away. :(
Our 2022 GC 4XE lost 50% value in 2 years and 33K miles...
Got told by 2 different dealers that they just can't move used Hybrids ( even without the open ended recalls)

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting, but there's no way I'm keeping a potentially unsafe vehicle in my house. Jeep needs to step up to help both the customers and the dealerships.

That's why we traded too...
FWIW- the Grand Cherokee aspect was probably the nicest vehicle we've ever owned...
Only issue we ever had with it was the hybrid part..

Luckily we haven't had any major issues with either one of our 4xe's but we are still doing what the recalls recommend. No charging and no parking in the garage. Have to keep the top on the Wrangler a lot more now because it's parked outside at night. Too humid and wet to leave it off. So we haven't been able to enjoy these 70-75 degree days with the top off like we usually do this time of year.

Gas mileage in the Wrangler is 16-17mpg. I could usually do all of my weekday driving on Electric. My cost of electricity is less than half of what 93 octane is right now. And the ride in Electric is much more enjoyable. The Grand Cherokee gets a little better gas mileage - 19-20mpg. But the overall build quality of this GC is crap compared to previous GC's that we've had. Lots of plastic parts that just feel really cheap and rattle around. Both inside and out. We have 18 months left on the lease for the GC and weren't planning on buying or leasing another even if this recall never happened. 15 months left on the Wrangler. I love having a Wrangler. But haven't decided what I'm going to do for my next vehicle yet. Really depends on how Jeep handles these recalls. I don't have high hopes that they'll do anything to make this right for any of us.

I have been watching, with bated breath, on how your situation turns out. I have put a lot of time and money into getting my Jeep the way I want it (which is part of the fun!), so trading it in isn't an easy decision for me. But I do wish I could find a way to trade it in for a 2.0 ICE (with a SOT) (or even a 392) and move all my parts and doo-dads over, and not get raked across the coals and forced to eat a sh!t sandwich while walking on lego's....

I am still a fan of the 4XE and I have MANY posts on this site that says such, but the lack of charging infrastructure over the last 3 years has been frustrating. Not to mention all the recalls and the lack of faith in the brand and implementation of the technology.

Electric, hybrid, PHEV's have been around a long time. This shouldn't be that hard to figure out...

Heck, we loved both of our 4xe ('21 Sahara replaced by the current, '24 Rubicon).

We have zero issues with how they work (obviously knew going into the second one), they fit perfectly into our use case, they're fun, perfect for our daily/secondary ride, a blast when we get to go topless, having been an EV family for several years, we're good with L2 home charging, love when we get to run it silent and a decent amount cheaper vs. gas (and making our gas fill-ups once a month).

And as I've mentioned, this just happens to be our last Jeep anyway, as we pivot a single vehicle and The Big Move ™ but if anything had changed, we'd be done with the brand for now anyway. We're very accommodating, get things go wrong, but this latest batch of issues - and the subsequent response - is a deal breaker.
