RE: 2016 Toyota Rav4.
Basically dealing with a Toyota TMPS System that does not tell you anything past a TPMS Idiot light on the dash.

Here's the flowchart:
TPMS dash light comes on. Car has no information to give past that.
Same day I feel a mild vibration to one corner while driving.
Air pressure stays good at all tires (by pressure gauge).

Is it possible a TPMS head came off and yet does not allow air loss? And when wheel rotates up to speed, the head is the cause of an imbalance by centripedal force?

I know I'm dreaming here, by my other nightmares have come true too. THANKS AND Merry Christmas!

sensor are pretty light so doubt you would feel it...as for your question would it hold air yes because they are downstream of the valve stem core... a 10 year old sensor could have a dead battery...it is really unlikely for a sensor to break off unless it was damaged while installing or removing a tire....my bet on battery...

tpms sensors usually go bad after like 5 years, even if it is broken off (guarentee its not) youd still get valve stems with new sensors

to answer your question, yes the stem would still hold air

just get a set of 4 autel universals sensors for the price of one OEM and call it a day

Thanks guys. I just had a set of snow tires and new oem sensors put on at Costco. Whatever the cause, I'll take it back and have them figure out the TMPS dash light.

Weirdly, none of my OBD scanners picks up anything with TPMS so I can't Dx a thing. So back to Costco. Likely looking at new sensor and remount. Dingleberries.

Solved. Theory was sound. Just not right. Tire was out of balance. Sensors all intact and functioning. TPMS was just not setup right from the start. Costco rebalanced the tires and hand-scanned the TPMS sensors. They said a rogue sensor head would have been very audible. After 12 cycles, all remains good. No need for black tape to cover the light. $0.

Thanks guys. But nothing to see here.
