I used heat shrink tubing to cover mine.

Not only achieved the goal of having a black antenna, but also cuts down noise/potential paint scratching when the antenna hits the cab.

This probably sounds stupid, because it is. Are you turning the silver antenna or are you trying to turn the black circle piece?

I recall mine having some resistance removing, but it wasn’t that difficult. You could try a heat gun to soften up the locktite (if that is what is on the threads). Be careful not to heat up the fender paint.

I replaced mine with this black one from Amazon:

It has held up well for 1-1/2 years now…

Other than a heat gun, using a soldering iron to heat up the metal antenna should help to get any Loctite threadlocker gel loose. Might end up scorching wherever you touch, though. Using a lighter might also work, but is also more likely to scorch the base as well.

I am thinking that I'll try it....looks like either Lowes or Home Depot will get a visit so I can actually see the different sizing options. I'm one of those weirdos that is OCD Type A Brain specific and can't just order on a guess lol

I can't believe you're letting the antenna win !
AZHellaYellaGirl > stubborn JL antenna

(Put a small length of pipe over the proper wrench and try unscrewing with more leverage, after you've sprayed with penetrating oil and giving it a light hit with a hammer, not a wild swing, gentle rap or two).

Commonly used motto when doing Jeep modifications: "If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replaced anyway". More force will likely solve the problem. The cheater pipe advise above is good.

Since you're keeping it, is it possible to paint it while on?🎨🖌

Crazy it won't budge even with locking pliers. When you do get it off I like this antenna. I tried the Bronco antenna and while it looks good in the rubberized black it was too whippy for me. At highway speed it would bend nearly touching the door mirror and would hit it in wind gusts. I also tried some much smaller amazon antennas but reception sucked. This antenna is shorter than the OEM antenna, it's a rubberized black coating, has held up for a year in the sun and multiple washes (still looks new), and has great reception.

If I remember right I may have had to get an antenna mount adapter because that one doesn't come with the right size. Here's a kit I bought:
