The first oil change - when should it be done?

I bought a brand new sahara and its at just shy of 2000km. I know oil changes have longer intervals but ive read in multiple places that the first oil change should be done sooner than that.

should I call in for my first change now or wait until im at the proper mileage?

EDIT: to be clear im talking about the first oil change only.

1 year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first, is what the manual states. There is generally no need for a break in oil change. This also depends on driving conditions, but is a good starting point.

I have always changed the first and second oil changes way early. ~1000 miles for the first and 2500-3000 for the second and then after that I go 5000 miles. been doing that on since the 70's. I never feel bad about it either....

Did my first at 6k km / 3.7k milles and the next at the same number. Reality I change the oil every 6 months so winter / summer lol.

about a year or 4,000 miles, whichever comes first. Then repeat.

I did the first one at 1k (miles) and then again at 2k after a trip to Moab. I'll do it again at 5k and then probably every 5k after that. Differentials got fluid swaps at 2k.

It's too much, but it's my rig, I get to maintain it however I want to.

I'm a 5,000 to 8,000 mile OCI kinda guy lately. If I'm over 5,000 in the fall, I change it before it gets too cold. If not, I get closer to 8,000 thru winter and change it in the spring after it warms up.

I did my first oil change at 1-yr and ~1000-miles. I typically change every 6-mos but I was sidelined recovering from surgery then. I plan on a 6-mo schedule going forward.

Good advice, but since its new it comes with 6 free oil changes and tire rotations. I know nothing about servicing a vehicle (but plan to learn with this jeep) but I do have a good mechanic who will take over maintenance once the free chances are used up.

The first oil is usually Break In Oil and not designed to run the normal interval once your engine has been broken in. I change it in the 500 to 1500 mile range initially. I always send a sample of mine to SpeedDiagnostics so that I have absolute proof the oil was changed per interval and proof the engine was just fine at the last oil change. (for warranty purposes). I use whatever the OEM recommends as far as weight, but I use the Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic and I add ProLube oil additive to each oil change. I generally keep vehicles for 10+ years. On my 392 I change it every 3K to 3.5K miles, and on my 3.6 I change it every 5 to 7.5K. Depends on how hard I used it during that interval.

Is there any evidence that suggests the initial fill is anything other than regular motor oil? It's unusual for a vehicle to come with break-in oil and there are typically strong recommendations to change it at a very early interval. I'm not seeing that anywhere in Stellantis' literature.
