Can't seem to send a custom text message by speech. System only accepts pre-defined messages. Anyone else have this issue?

Mine does that too. Wasn't sure if it was my phone or what. I have the 7 inch screen, not sure if that makes a difference.

Forgot to mention, if you actually plug in your phone and use Android auto or carplay you can send custom texts via voice recognition.

I honestly have no idea. It just always worked when I had Android auto running. Once the phone is plugged in and Android auto is running you just push the talk button on the steering wheel and say "text (name)" then you can talk and it will confirm what you said and ask if you want to send it. If it doesn't work for you, it may be a setting in Android auto you have to mess with. It doesn't work unless the phone is plugged in and actually running android auto. My phone will read texts to me if it is in the Jeep, but not plugged in. I can then reply with the predefined messages.
Hope this helps.

When you are not plugged in but paired, what happens when you press and hold the talk button for 2-3 seconds? Don’t have my JL yet but most cars now have a double function on the talk button. Quick press accesses the car’s multimedia control, long press activates the phone’s(Siri, google etc).
