Two door will always be better performing off-road.

That said, I think there's a lot more to your plan to consider than this.

I'd recommend going with a JK over a JL, because if something breaks, you'll find compatible parts more easily in South America than with a newer vehicle.

If you are going wheeling to south america, take a Toyota. It is what all mechanics there work with.

Also I hope you are joking about the gold. The Amazon rain forest is protected, and if you are thinking of going there to exploit the land I'd watch for arrows.
