My wrangler broke down and was found to have a bad TCM. That is built into the valve body. Replaced valve body/TCM. Immediately upon starting jeep, part broke again before even driving. Dealers stumped. 2 inch mopar lift, 35” tires, z automotive tazer that now can’t be unmarried because no access to dash. No other aftermarket parts. Tazer set to change tire size, TPMS, hood alarm, and backup cam with turn signal. Been installed for 2.5 years. 44k miles. Any leads?

Known issue. Behind the right front fender liner there is a connector along the firewall. Inside this connector there are two can-bus wires in addition to the power and ground for the TCM. You need to just bypass this connector and wire it directly around it. This connector is only disconnected for cab-off service, so hard wiring it isn't a real issue.

One or more of the pins have a bad crimp/connection. Usually it's either the power or ground wire, but I do all 4 when I get one in for repair. There is a thread on these forums with the wiring diagrams if you'd like to attempt the repair yourself, it's very easy.

As this is a electrical wiring repair, it isn't covered outside of the 3 year/36k warranty. Your dealer however might cover it due to the improper diagnosis.

The connector number is:

Unfortunately my Wrangler has been in the shop 4 times for this same issue in the past six months. Clearly Jeep knows this is an issue, however my techs have fixed it 3 times unsuccessfully. Hopefully, the fourth fix will work.

Do you know what’s been tried on yours and unsuccessful?

Just want to say thank you for this. I got a U0402 code today and it points to this issue.
So just hard wire around this connector? Are crimps ok or do you solder?

I'm currently experiencing the same issue. Its in the shop again (twice) since July.
Were they able to properly repair it?

They ended up replacing it a second time and it was fine. They had me unpair the tazer before they started it up that second time. Not sure if the tazer was related to the issue or if the replacement part was just a dud, but I haven’t bothered reinstalling since just to be on the safe side. Driven about 15k miles since and no more issues
