I'm thinking about getting a Tazer JL Mini for my 2021 Wrangler Sahara. I've read some posts on the forum that there has been trouble with the Mac update for the Tazer. I think I read one that indicated it was being discontinued. But I find it listed on the ZAutomotive website. But Only Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey. (version 10, 11 and 12 respectively). I'm on Ventura (version 13) and Sonoma (version 14) has been out side early summer 2023.

What is the current state of the Tazer firmware update for Mac? Is it solid? Will it work with Ventura?

I have an original two piece Tazer and am able to update using Ventura. The only caveat is that it’s very picky about usb cables. You might have to try a few before it’s recognized.

Well this would be a brand new Tazer. I'm going to look into whether they provide a USB cable.

could call and ask them. they probly either haven't tested OSX 13/14 or just haven't updated their web site.

i'm no expert but there probly isn't a reason it should't work on Ventura and Sonoma.
like most software vendors are doing, they probly dropped support for 10.14.6 Mojave and prior, as Mojave was the last 32 bit supporting OS. now if they write their app as Universal (64 bit Intel + Apple chips), you need 10.15 Catalina and up.

FWIW, I have owned Tazer since 2018 and always updated with a Mac. Never had any issue, even on the since replaced “bad” version of their software. I’m always on a newer OS than the ones they list as supported.

I’d say just get one. If you have an issue, return it, but you won’t have any issue.

I also stopped obsessively updating firmware. In the early years Joe was fixing lots of bugs and adding features, but for the past several years it’s been quite stable and no need for me to bother.

I updated my Taser yesterday with my Mac. There is a new app that can be downloaded that works with apple products. It was a smooth install and update.

I am on Sonoma 14.2 BETA and my Tazer mini seems to work, but yet to make the TPMS selection to lower the tire pressure threshold...since my dealer cannot seem to get my TPMS to work on all 4 tires, LOL, and going back for my 3rd trip on new 2024 JLR-X.... It does connect and appears solid...

Thanks everyone. I did contact ZAutomotive directly and they confirmed it will work on Ventura 13.1. I'm currently on Ventura 13.3 on my main MacBook Pro so hopefully I'll be good.

The current version of macOS is 14.1.2 Sonoma. Is there a reason you are still on Ventura when macOS updates are free?

Many years working in IT. My Mac is also my work machine and being on the bleeding edge of OS versions can wind up with business mission critical applications that don't work. I typically will not move to the latest version of a Mac OS on a mission critical machine until it's reached like the .3 stable release - so like 14.3. And only once I've checked that all my work applications are indicating they support that new Mac OS version. If all you're doing on your Mac is household stuff like web browsing and email with the Apple applications bundled with the OS then the risk of being on the very latest macOS is pretty minimal. But if you're using it in a business setting with lots of 3rd party applications that's not generally a wise choice. And if you're hanging back on the previous version of the OS like I am (in this case Ventura) then you're still getting important security patches and it's still a supported version of the OS.
