Does anyone know what size threads are used for the pre threaded screw holes in the tailgate that are used when installing a table? I'm thinking about a DIY project and I'd rather not strip out the pre existing threads. Thanks for any help!

There is a hole in the bottom right of my Trailgater that lines up with a threaded section of the tailgate. Does this take the M6 bolt as well? The Trailgater does not come with a bolt for this hole but my Overland Outfitters Cutlery Keeper has a tab for a bolt for this hole. Where do I purchase M6 bolts? I went to my local hardware store and auto parts place and neither had them in stock.
Thanks!

Fastenal would have it I'm sure. Don't know if you have a brick and mortar near you.

Your local Ace or True Value Hardware stores will have them in stock. The dealership will also have (be able to order) them, but at a heart stopping price.

No luck at my local Ace and True Value. I'm going to see if there is a Fastenal nearby.

Found the M6x1.0 bolt today and it didn't screw into the hole. I'm now not sure what the thread pitch is.

Okay, look at this picture ... are you talking about the three screw/bolt holes I've circled? If not, then doctor up the pic with an arrow.

The three I've circled are 6x1mm thread size. 6508574AA if you have the trail rails (torx head) and 6105151AA if you don't (hex head) ...

Thanks for the pic. This is the one I’m trying to fill. There is a threaded hole behind it. It doesn’t appear to take the bolt size you mentioned. Maybe it’s filled with paint? Not sure. I’m going to ask the dealer the next time I roll in.

If I'm reading your picture correctly, then this is the threaded hole (green circle) that you are talking about. The picture below shows it to be the same size or maybe one mm smaller. Try running a 5x1mm screw into it. The door contains metric fittings, so that would be a backup guess.

Changing/stocking different tap sizes on the manufacturing floor costs extra, so my best guess is that it is a 6x1 bolt. But, see if a 5x1 will fit. Doubt that your dealership will know the thread size. If it's not on the parts screen, they're lost ... and I don't remember that particular hole having a screw associated with it.

Thanks for the reply. This is what I’m trying to mount. If you look in the bottom right corner you’ll see a canvas tab that gets screwed in. I’m heading out to try a 5mm bolt. Thanks!

Turns out I had the wrong bolt size. The 6x1 fit. I also need a shorter bolt. Worked out fine.
I'm trying to fit a 6X1 but it's very tight? Was it a tight fit for you? I don't know if it's because of the paint, or what.

I don't remember anything being in that particular hole. So, if you didn't remove a bolt, it probably has paint in it. You could run a tap in the hole. Or, make a thread chaser out of one of the bolts by filing it to make a couple of cutter grooves.

Since the bolts are steel and the gate frame is an alloy, do use some anti-seize when assembling it. One of my bolts came out very hard after only a year. Had to buy a new bolt and tap the hole to clean up the threads.
