Hello,

I want to stop using those disposable green LP cans, instead opting for the 5lb refillable bottle. I was investigating the Rockslide Engineering EZ Rack, using only one bracket rather than both, plus a filled 5lb tank. That's going to add roughly 20 pounds to the stock tailgate on my 21 JL with factory 33s.

I know I can't add any further weight for fear of damaging something (sagging hinges, etc.), but do any of you think it would hurt to strap that bottle on for the occasional camping trips I do in the early spring and late fall? It would never be on there more than a handful of weekends out of the year, but it would have to endure a few bumpy roads along the KAT, for example. I guess I am trying not to spend a grand a new tailgate / tire carrier when I really won't need the gas very often.

Thanks for any input you might have. I really appreciate this forum and all the great advice it contains.

You’ll be fine. There are quite a few of us that are running aftermarket wheels and 35” tires and have had no issues. I personally run a black rhino Barstow and a Toyo open country 35” which is over 100lbs and wheel regularly for the past 35k miles with no issues.
