I recently installed a uniden CB radio with a firestick antenna mounted on the back of my EVO tire carrier. Extended a ground wire on to the carrier to chassis ground, ran coax cabling etc and when checking the SWR meter I keep getting around 3. I swapped to a different coax cable same result, verified ground connection etc. Kind of lost on this one, never had this type of issue before looking for suggestions. I went through the guide at rightchannelradios as well for a sanity check.

You didn’t mention tuning the antenna itself, but I’m assuming you’ve tried that already?

I moved the tip up and down didn’t seem to have an effect. The swr meter hardly moved from set position when keying the mic. Checked ground and hot, also placed jumper on base ground to chassis ground. All had hardly any effect. Weird...

That is weird. Is it possible th SWR meter itself is faulty?
I’ve never seen the SWR meter not change with changing the antenna length.

Can you hear and transmit ok?

Yeah definitely weird. I think the meter is working, the dial moved the needle and the reflection switch appears to be functioning. Its a workman (I believe) external meter that Ive had for a long time. I live in the suburb's and only have one CB so will have to wait to test it out.
