In a predicament here and need help deciding what I should do. Taking a road trip to see family this month (3,000 miles) round trip in the Jeep. I have the factory 17s in storage could swap out the big 20x12 on 35s to save money/wear and better ride quality, not to mention there just collecting dust.

On the other end: I want to show the Jeep to family complete how I like it & just don’t what to mess with switching wheels out.

Thanks for any input! Below is pic of Jeep the wheels are pretty massive in person.

I am no expert and you're drivin', I'd do the 17's 3000 miles is a hike! I'm sure you'll gain a few MPG with 17" tires!

I have stock Sahara wheels with Stock size 18" Falken Wildpeaks and they look same size of tires in your pic? Are thos the same tires in your sidebar pic...optical illusion if they are?

Safe trip!!!

Go Jeep!!!

Who buys a Wrangler for economy and comfort? Damn the torpedos (or the 17's in this case)... full speed ahead!

But that's just me.

Seems to me you have to weigh the personal costs and benefits two ways:
  1. If you go with the 17’s you’ll probably have a little better on road ride, and gas mileage. But when you get there you’re not going to be showing up in “your JL”. Also, given that it is a long drive, what if you find some place you want to visit along the way, and perhaps you can do a little light off-roading. Will you be missing the big tires?
  2. If you go with the Big Boys, you’ll probably drive a little slower. The ride might not be quite as smooth. You’ll pay a gas tax. But are you the kind of person who is going to enjoy the looks and comments as you travel with your Jeep in it’s current state? And when you are showing it off to your family you’re going to get maximum impact.
So what’s it going to be? Economical and conservative? Or bold and spicy?

I think we all know the answer already...

I have a feeling most family members won’t pay as much attention to wheels as you think unless they’re die hard car people.

If you're doing mostly highway driving the difference in fuel consumption won't be that huge. I wouldn't bother with the hassle of changing wheels. Enjoy your Jeep the way you intended when you upgraded to 35s. Also, consider selling the other set instead of storing them. It's unlikely you will switch back once you get used to 35s.

Head versus heart battle going on here, sounds like me. Also sounds like your mind is already made up, you just needed to confirm it. Drive it as is, show it off, and enjoy it.....you only live once.
