Has anyone taken steering wheel part and swapped the wiring so that the left finger buttons control volume and right changes stations? There’s gotta be wires going to them that can be swapped or even easier, just swap the buttons with each other.
Is that even possible?

I would be interested in this as well. Seems like software should be able to get it done, but also wiring. Just makes no sense to have the volume controls on the backside of the steering wheel just inches from the volume knob on the stereo. Seems like most cars have the volume control on the steering wheel on the left.

I took apart my steering wheel when I swapped it with carbon fiber and it required me to remove those buttons from one to the other.

mid I remember correctly the physical buttons are identical and theoretically should be able to work. The only issue I see is whether or not the wires were long enough. But that’s an easy problem to solve.

I think what I’m gonna do is order another wiring harness, cut off existing connectors in steering wheel and unravel the new one and splice and run it crisscross to the switches. Think the harness was 125-150$

Hi There:

I know that is an old thread but I want to know if any of you finally manage to change the buttons, I was looking into this in my Jeep and I swapped the buttons but doesn’t work, no one of the buttons response if you put in the opposite side, I was tested the wiring and one of the two is the same, but the another one is different, I was thinking that maybe in the connector in the center of the steering, I can swap the pins and try it again, what do you think?

Best regars

Hahahaha, like me, never enough time, my plan after several research is to pass a wiring from the left to the right and connect the buttons, I will post if it works.

Question: where do these wires from the steering wheel plug into the radio??
We bought used and have an aftermarket radio (alpine ilx-w650) installed and the steering wheel controls are not working :/
Any help would be amazing !

Any luck finding the answer? My 8.3" screen is changing channels like it has a touch screen issue or the steering wheel buttons are worn out. My Chrysler minivan had the same issue, it was the steering wheel electronics, I hope to disconnect them temporarily so I know what item to replace on my 2018 JL

I'm not interested in swapping mine.........left to right or vice versa. But I would sure like to nail down what each one is supposed to do. I can tell that the right hand upper and lower parts of the button control volume. Think the middle (bumped up) part of button brings up your preset stations.
Now I need to understand the left side. Not sure just what the up versus the down versus the middle does.

I’d love to do this as well. My car is stick and sometimes I want to raise or lower the volume with the hand that’s already on the steering wheel.
