Help!! 2018 Jeep Wrangler and the Uconnect nav is all out of whack. Tried to learn fix online, tried resetting (by holding volume and tune button down for 20 seconds while in alt), as well as putting a thumb drive in the USB port to try to download current maps…all to no avail.

Starts bugging out and flashing different points of interest, etc. while I’m in the middle of directions. So I plug phone it to use Waze which works sometimes, sometimes not.

Will try to start calling first # in my phone list when I haven’t touch anything. Completely unreliable. Don’t know what to do.

Thanks for any insights you can offer!! -Cricket

I have a 2024 Wrangler that I bought roughly 3 months ago with 9000 miles and I'm having similar issues. My Uconnect screen will go black as well every single button and control below the screen (heater controls, auto stop, hazzard), and they all loose their functions. I will be locked out of everything while it glitches and self resets. Sometimes when this happens there will be a humming that comes through the speakers, but not always The entire process from start until it comes back on is 5 minutesor more. This has happened while parked and while driving, during start up and random times after already driving. I find it dangerous for it to happen while driving.
I also tried the reset that you mentioned with the volume and tune button, it didn't help. I ended up taking mine to the dealer and they did some sort of reset by hooking it up to a computer. I thought it took care of the problem, but a weeks later it did it again. It's completely random when it happens. I believe it's either a wiring issues or a program issue. I have a fear that it will eventually fry itself out. @JeepCares

Thanks so much for your reply. And I’m really sorry you’re having this issue too! It’s so random and so frustrating and, like you, I cannot find the fix for it. And I really don’t want to take it to the dealership and throw money at it because I’m not convinced the fix would be permanent. And your experience kind of proves that theory.

I love my JEEP, but between the ongoing suspension “death wobble” issue that I get somewhat regularly, and now having no navigation and GPS functionality when my Uconnect is feeling wonky, I’m getting really bummed with the JEEP situation. :(

These units tend to be flakey, if it's a failed unit I would not buy another Uconnect 8.4 to replace it, I would look at another solution, maybe one of the lower end units, the 8.4 is more gimmick than useful. The navigation is horrendous to the point of being dangerous.

2018 the maps are probably long out of date.

It's much better and cheaper to use your phone.

My idea is if my Uconnect fail, is to get a screen less system somehow.

All I need is an aux and maybe Bluetooth, ideally something to play music off a USB key

The only thing I would miss is the steering wheel controls.

Would be nice if someone came up with a screen delete solution.

It's surprising in 2018+ 💩 like this Uconnect can pass off for technology, and Uconnect even won awards beating out other systems 😂

Bring back the single din systems, these radios is like have a big screen tv in your dining room.

Thanks so much for your response BXFX! My fix right now is to plug in my iPhone and use Waze for my navigation. The functionality of music and my sat radio and all the other controls work fine, but the navigation is just glitchy, and like you said…to the point of being dangerous sometimes.

Knowing it’s so unreliable, I try not to use it for new directions and just plug in my phone and go off that. Do you think newer jeeps Uconnect systems would be better? Or is it still really dodgy?

Thanks!

The Uconnect 8.4 is the newest that will work with the 2018, the 2024 have a completely different setup, the dash cents etc have been relocated for the 2024+, some people have reported sporadic issues with the new 12 inch system.

The only issues I've had with Wranglers is that Uconnect system, I buy the Sahara trim, which tend to come their "best" Uconnect unit, the last 3 Wranglers all 3 had buggy Uconnect.

You’re under warranty, take it to the dealer.

My temporary fix was covered under warranty, luckily. I feel your frustration. This is my first Jeep and I'm regretting it. The fact that I get 12-14 MPG with a 4 cylinder at 70 MPH is insane. I now don't drive above 55 on the highway. As I mentioned, it's a 2024. The gas mileage does not seem logical and I constantly fear that something mechanical is causing it to be so low.

Wow, that’s a bummer to hear. Last 3 jeeps have had Uconnect issues??!! I love my jeep, but I’m thinking it may be my first and last when it’s time to trade it in in a few years. :(
