I went to start it up this morning as usual pushing the brake and pushing the start button, and it would not start. I tried this a couple of time. Then, I noticed a message on the dash saying to start it with the key fob. SO, I used the key fob like you would for a remote start, pushing it two times, and it started up. As far as I can remember, I shut it off as usual the last time I drove it. I just had my 12V battery checked, so that is not an issue.

Has anyone else had this happen, and is it something I should take into the dealer to check out?

Have you tried your other key fob?

The 4xe doesn’t use the 12V battery to crank the ICE; the HV battery does that. And normally just “starting" doesn’t involve ICE. The 12V does power the electronics, needed to start. This sounds, however, like the immobilizer for some reason didn’t think the key was in the car when you pressed the start button. But it would be very hard to find anything defective if the problem does not occur all the time.

There are things about the Wrangler keying that still bother me. It doesn’t start if the door is open, doesn’t turn off if not in park, those kinds of things. I am still trying to figure out how to program a second keyfob without paying much money.

No, not yet. However, I just put new batteries in both of them. If it happens again, I will try that.
Thanks!
If you replaced the batteries after the last start, maybe it is a factor? (The two may need to recalibrate or reconnect or something. I'm just guessing here.)

Well, it hasn't happened again so I am not sure what to think. A one time condition? If it happens again, I will try the other key fob.
