Hi all,

Sorry this is long, TLDR; at the bottom!

I want to hear from you - has anyone else been having issues with acceleration in electric mode (and sometimes hybrid) recently?

I have been noticing that for the last month and a half or so, when I'm in electric mode (sometimes hybrid) and try to accelerate from a stop (at a light, making a turn, pulling out onto the road, etc.) the vehicle does not want to accelerate properly. Once it hits 50% power (sometimes less), it accelerates at a snail's pace or not at all - even if my pedal is to the floor! Shortly after, the engine will roar to life and it typically lurches forward. Many times, electric mode will become unavailable shortly after. I've had this vehicle for almost 2 years and it has NEVER done this until recently.

My dealership recently told me that when they did the fix for 68C, Stellantis quietly installed something into the vehicles that essentially throttles your battery's power in order to prevent it from getting too hot. So if you attempt to use "too much" power - like on acceleration - it caps off at 50% and then switches over to the engine to make up the rest. Issue is, in doing this, they've totally altered the functionality of our vehicles without notifying us!!

I currently have a case open with Stellantis for this and all the other issues this vehicle has had, but theyre denying they did this and now my dealership is denying that we were even able to recreate the issue together lol. Definitely a safety issue that I know for myself could've lead to a crash multiple times if I hadnt waited for traffic to be super clear before pulling onto the road.

Personally, I think they either did do that, it's tied to the A7C or 78C recalls, or we now have ANOTHER new issue. 🫠

TLDR; If your 4xe hasnt been accelerating properly in electric/hybrid mode recently, please add a comment below! I've seen a few people post/comment about it recently on reddit/facebook, but I'm trying to make a point to Stellantis that it's not just me!

Mine started acting up a few weeks after getting the 68C recall done. Similar to what you're mentioning above. My battery percentage would also do weird things like drop from 50% to 30% without hitting the numbers in between. Or it would switch from Electric to Hybrid when I still had 10-15% left on the battery. It died in my driveway a few days later and has been sitting at the dealership for almost a month now.

Our Grand Cherokee 4xe also passed 68C. Didn't notice any of these issues on it, but the battery no longer holds a charge after passing. Loses almost 20% overnight and gets about 7 miles of range. That one is also sitting at the dealership for almost a month now and they haven't even figured out what's wrong with it yet because it hasn't thrown any codes.

Ugh, how frustrating!! The worst part is the dealerships and Stellantis denying anything has changed or is wrong. Like uhh hello??

My 2024 Rubicon X 4Xe does not operate or accelerate the same a it did when I first bought it. There i also a change on the Max Regen that is not a strong as it was in prior months. The hesitation on acceleration is sometimes scary and the on electric mode it would stay on until I was down to two miles of battery charge left and now it forces me into hybrid a nine miles. Definitely not the same Jeep I bought almost 3 year ago.

It's totally scary! There's been times that if I didnt anticipate it happening and just pulled out into traffic, there's no way i wouldnt have gotten t-boned! It's absolutely ridiculous and theyre once again putting our lives at risk!

No "they" are not putting your life at risk.... you are. What they are going to tell you is that you knew that you were driving a defective piece of equipment (Jeep) but you decided that driving t was more important than your personal safety. Life is filled with choices and you made the choice to continue to drive and put your life and those of the motoring public at risk.... such that you assume the total liability for your actions. That... is exactly why the courts will not rule in your favor when you get killed for driving your Jeep or "you" cause an accident for that same action.

I am having this issue as well, it's not every time seems to happen more when it's cold or first couple miles, but I will push the gas to pull from a stop and it will just crawl for about a second. One another post I stated it almost felt like the torque converter wasn't engaging and was educated that the vehicle doesn't have one but it is something of an issue. Not sure what the answer is, haven't checked the actual numbers but I am sure I am upside down on this thing. Really frustrating. Seriously might have to start driving in gas only mode which is a complete waste of half the reason I bought the thing.

I can't speak on the acceleration too much, nothing has really jumped out to me, plus I have 35's, so it can only be so good. I will say my gas mileage has been fluctuating a ton lately. There have been cold days, when I was running heat, where I get 20-25mpg, then warmer days, with no AC/heat, and I am getting 12-15, and it's the same route, with cruise control on, can't place what's been happening.

Well that's bullshit... what choice do I have when this is my only vehicle? I am trying to get out of it, but until then, i have no choice but to keep driving it. And *I* know it's defective, but theyre claiming it's not.

FYI - I was reading the warranty booklet or whatever and it says if you don't charge your 4xe for over 30 days where the battery reaches zero or near zero state of charge, the warranty no longer covers the cost of repairing damage or issues lol 🫠

There could be a couple of things going on, I don't have my 4xe to test, it's awaiting a battery replacement, after passing the recall I only drove it for about 3 miles before the battery failed.

It appears the throttle has been fiddled with during 68C.

Long before 68C, unpredictable behaviour was a sign of a failing battery.

Took my 2023 4xe Wrangler into dealer last Tuesday for the 68C test. Set trip odometer at "0" to see if they really did a drive test. Picked up vehicle as dealership said the battery passes but no miles driven via the trip odometer. Two days later driving only 5 miles when engine light came on and I had no acceleration and it just die. Had to have my AAA insurance tow it to dealership. Shortly after while waiting they told me battery was bad. Into the abyss I went as they had to keep the vehicle. Had done some research into loaner cars and Stellantis had a "Goodwill Alternate Transportation Guideline warranty bulletin re the 4xe recalls. No loaners so I was told to call Stellantis recall center. Was told I could get a rental but "I" had to get the rental and "I" had to pay for it myself and get reimbursed. Now I find out that the reimbursement will not be processed until "AFTER" my Jeep is returned to me. Goodwill title is kinda like BS.
When I bought the Jeep I did some research and several sites on the web had a very high evaluations. So I wanted to see if I liked the Jeep and I leased it. First year was great so I decided to buy it at the end of the lease. Now I didn't worry about the miles driven as I would buy it. Another abyss hits me in the face as the recalls started, battery faulty, all 4xes are removed from lots and I now I can't even buy the Jeep at the end of my lease. This puts me into the deep abyss of having to pay the mileage cost at the end of the lease as the vehicle has to be turned in. Even if I could buy my Jeep the residual value is $32K but the real value of my Jeep is around $22K.
I just can't believe a billion $$ company like Stellantis can't help us 4xe owners. I'm a retiree and I really don't know what I am going to do. I should have stuck with the good old gasoline Jeep Wrangler Sahara as I know what they can do. Thanks for listening.

Yup... sounds about right. I was watching those videos too 🥲 Definitely makes me worry that my battery is going to fail soon, kinda scary to think about!

Ugh I'm so sorry youre dealing with that! It's utter bs that stellantis wont help us out - or even communicate with us about what's going on! I literally hate their rental/reimbursement policy too. Like uhhh some of us cant afford those upfront costs! Plus, they expect us to still make our monthly payments too 🙄
