Stereo volume behavior: up goes down

Not sure I care enough to did too deeply into this but maybe this has happened to someone else before? My '24 Willys stock stereo is doing the strangest thing where volume gets noticeably lower going from 33 to 34 (as if I turned it down instead of up) then a big jump back up at 35. My old Jeep had premium sound & I never needed to go over 30 so this is new territory.

I have a basic understanding of wiring but can't figure out what to investigate - the knob?
