Got myself a weird bit of funk going on with steering. Before details, here is my build info:
- ‘21 rubicon ecodiesel
- Rockkrawler 3.5” springs with fox shocks in the rear
- Fox coilovers in front mounted to rebel off road coilover brackets, set to about 4.5” of lift
- Apex chassis steering
- Reid knuckles with flipped drag link
- Built D44s with 40” tires (sue me)
I have the Teraflex track bar relocation bracket in the image attached. It worked, but the drag link and track bar weren’t sitting at the same angle and I got a fair bit of movement in the steering wheel when going over bumps (bump steer). I decided to weld extensions onto the Teraflex bracket to allow me to raise the track bar mount to get the TB and DL parallel.
After welding those extensions on, steering feels funky. Feels like I have a lot more play and I need to steer a lot more to get the Jeep to turn. Weirdest part: it’s way worse when turning right. I have almost a full quarter turn of play in the wheel to the right before I start getting the wheels to really turn. Turning left is much closer to normal.
Any thoughts? Everything is tight/torqued. Steering was good before the extensions but I did not expect raising the track bar would affect steering quality in any way.
