On my 2020 journey Sahara with 16k miles, immediately after starting the engine I always (ok, I have forgotten a couple of times) pushed the s/s override button. In the last week, there seems to be some type of delay, such as it might not light up when pushed in say the first 10-20 seconds or so. Then, it will kick in.

Anyone else run into this? Thanks.

Like any vehicle I’m sure it’s all just powering up. Kind like the check engine light or dash lights turns on when you first turn the key the goes away. The jeeps just booting up. If you notice the ESS button does not function then start to worry.

This appears different in that for 2 years it has kicked in immediately when I start the engine and immediately push the button. In the last week, it suddenly takes several pushes and up to 20 + seconds. Something has changed, the question is what?

Not likely.

I have notices that other controls on that same "cluster", such as the fan speed knob, a/c switch, don't work either. Sometimes it works right away, other times it may take 20-30 seconds (or sometime in between) for those switches to function. I guess a visit to a dealer is in order.

Anyone else run into this?

Haven't run into this but I have heard that a failing battery will prevent ESS from kicking in. Maybe after you start the vehicle the battery needs a little time to get to an acceptable voltage for ESS to even be an option. If it isn't an option for it to be on, maybe the computer won't allow you to disable it.

AndrewHW just posted a new thread with this same issue. Hopefully, we can get a definitive answer as to why this module may not always be "live" immediately upon startup.
