Looking for some advice from the tech savvy. I had to take out the factory sub and enclosure for my rear shock towers.

Is it possible to use the wiring from the factory sub? does it require similar resistor tricking? Or am I basically bought into a mono amp, PAC pro, and sub w/ custom box.

appreciate the help!

The factory Alpine subwoofer has 4 connectors for the subwoofer that is 2 ohms each, so yes, you can wire those connectors together in a series to get two 4 ohm leads, and then wire those in parallel to get a single 2 ohm for an aftermarket subwoofer. You can buy adapters to do this as well if you don't want to splice/hack up the factory wiring: https://brpautodesigns.com/jeep-wrangler-jlu-factory-subwoofer-upgrade-wiring-harness/

I believe the factory amplifier is supposedly rated at 200 watts RMS @ 2 ohms in case you're shopping for a suitable subwoofer.

Nice! Great recommendation

I’m going to guess that the factory supply to the amp is pretty weak, and if I stick a decent quality sub in there, it’ll be wildly underpowered?

It's okay for what it is. General rule of thumb is better to match or slightly exceed the subwoofer's rating, so if you want to keep the factory Alpine amplifier, you probably should stick with a ~200 watt RMS subwoofer. Even at the same wattage load, an aftermarket subwoofer could still give you benefits in terms of better input sensitivity (being louder at the same wattage) or just better frequency response due to better woofer/surround material.

Appreciate you

At this point I’m leaning towards doing the PAC AP4, mono amp, and JL audio sub.

gives me room to upgrade to a 5 channel amp later and upgrade the speakers.
