It's unclear which sub-forum is best for a clutch pedal discussion, so I decided to post here.

I came back from my wheeling trip yesterday, pressure washed the Jeep, and went to the store to buy groceries. When I parked, I shut the engine off with the transmission in gear, and then released the clutch pedal.

Croak!

What was that?! I tinkered around, trying to reproduce the sound. Clutch in, clutch out, crooooak. I forgot about this, and when I got in the Jeep today to go vote, the Budeweiser frogs had again taken up residence in my clutch pedal. Croak, groan, grunt, croak, groan, grunt.

The big thing that's different about today compared to the last six months, is that it's a lot colder than it has been, and it's getting ready to freeze tonight.

I haven't really looked at how the linkage functions mechanically. Maybe I got wet leaves packed up in some mechanism? I had an impressive number of wet leaves packed in every nook and cranny of the undercarriage after yesterday's trip.

My factory brakes were shot at 11,500 miles, and my Jeep just turned 12,000 yesterday. No more clutch warranty. Given the bad experience I had with my brakes, I'm starting to think I should back order a clutch and get one on hand so that I actually have a part to use if and when the clutch does eventually fail. I have a bad feeling the nine weeks I spend on 35s with 3.45 gears took years off the life of my clutch. Driving all these dirt roads with standing water everywhere probably isn't helping either. I bet that shit gets inside the bell housing the same way it got inside the brake caliper pistons.

But maybe I'm just freaking out over nothing, and I need to shoot a little lithium grease on some pivot point or something.

Any ideas?

Probably some pivot point or bushing didn't get lubed in the factory. Sorry I can't help on locations to check or lube since mine is an auto. Its under warranty, so I would at least get a complaint logged even if they can't immediately fix it. You never know, It may become a new TSB.

The clutch warranty expired when the clock struck 12,000, and it costs $200 just to get the dealership to look at anything. It's important to be damn sure they're going to find and warranty something before signing that dotted line.

I would get under there and have a good look at everything before going to the dealer. If you have access to a lift even better (Powerwash everything underneath) Then lube everything. If I'm not mistaken there should be a plastic plug on the bottom of the bell housing, maybe pop that and see what comes out?

Ok, so clutch pedal assembly and linkage are not covered? I would be checking the details on that. The clutch to me is the assembly inside the transmission and doesn't include everything that bolts to it or touches it.

I had my clutch pedal creaking with under 1K miles. I pulled out the can of spray lithium grease and went to work on hitting up lever points and spring on the pedal arm itself. I think it was ultimately the pivot right above the spring. You do have to be a bit of a contortionist to access this up under the lower dash.

Update: The weather is basically some random temperature from 20 to 70 every day, and this has allowed me to notice that the creaking is a cold weather thing. It just seems like the Jeep doesn't like cold weather.

Well, that makes two of us.

It seems to be okay, except I still get an odd clunk here and there that has me wondering if something is loose in the suspension again. If I would just drive to the mall like a normal human being, I wouldn't have these issues.

I had issues with squeaking from the in cabin clutch pedal assembly. I crawled under a few times to lube the assembly. It quieted down but did not go away. Eventually it passed, felt more like a time based thing, hopefully yours goes away as well.

Any updates? Mine seems to be coming from the clutch pedal spring. I squirted some dry lube on it but it's still squeaking. Mine sounds like an old rusty car door, really loud and annoying

Yeah, I haven't thought about it in a long time. It worked itself out.

My 6 speed is just under 4k miles and it makes all kinds of noises, including periodic squeaks. Probably have them check it when I bring it in for its first service
