It's unclear which sub-forum is best for a clutch pedal discussion, so I decided to post here.
I came back from my wheeling trip yesterday, pressure washed the Jeep, and went to the store to buy groceries. When I parked, I shut the engine off with the transmission in gear, and then released the clutch pedal.
Croak!
What was that?! I tinkered around, trying to reproduce the sound. Clutch in, clutch out, crooooak. I forgot about this, and when I got in the Jeep today to go vote, the Budeweiser frogs had again taken up residence in my clutch pedal. Croak, groan, grunt, croak, groan, grunt.
The big thing that's different about today compared to the last six months, is that it's a lot colder than it has been, and it's getting ready to freeze tonight.
I haven't really looked at how the linkage functions mechanically. Maybe I got wet leaves packed up in some mechanism? I had an impressive number of wet leaves packed in every nook and cranny of the undercarriage after yesterday's trip.
My factory brakes were shot at 11,500 miles, and my Jeep just turned 12,000 yesterday. No more clutch warranty. Given the bad experience I had with my brakes, I'm starting to think I should back order a clutch and get one on hand so that I actually have a part to use if and when the clutch does eventually fail. I have a bad feeling the nine weeks I spend on 35s with 3.45 gears took years off the life of my clutch. Driving all these dirt roads with standing water everywhere probably isn't helping either. I bet that shit gets inside the bell housing the same way it got inside the brake caliper pistons.
But maybe I'm just freaking out over nothing, and I need to shoot a little lithium grease on some pivot point or something.
Any ideas?
