Ok so did a little wheeling today and had something odd happen. So in 4L I would come to a complete stop and then shift to park and I would get this not quite a grinding sound, but like a harsh fast clicking. The second time this happened I saw an error message come up saying vehicle speed to high to shift into park. Didnt want to go broke for a third time so started shifting Transfer case to N and setting the parking brake when needing to stop in 4L. This is the first Automatic Ive done any serious wheeling in, so I'm finding something's that are weird to me.

I've heard a similar clicking sound (Never saw the error message) when in 4-Low and shifting to Park. I took it to the dealership, and they had never heard it before, but we all sort of decided it was due the the low gearing and the like still bunched up. Since then, when in 4-Low, I've been putting the (automatic) transmission in Neutral, let everything unwind/de-bunch up, then put it in Park. ... and I haven't heard the clicking since (except when I forget and go straight to Park)

I get the "Speed too high to shift to Park" message when setting the Jeep up for flat towing, primarily when the transfer case is in Neutral, and I'm putting the transmission in Park. The message then goes away, and it never sets a code.
Like most of the many error messages I see that disappear when restarting the engine, I ignore them. I have never owned a vehicle that displays so many error messages, most of which are fake news.

From the book.

4H TO 4L OR 4L TO 4H

“With the vehicle rolling at 1 to 3 mph (2 to 5 km/h), shift an automatic transmission into NEUTRAL (N),

or press the clutch pedal on a manual
transmission.
While the vehicle is coasting at 1 to 3 mph (2 to 5 km/h), shift the transfer case lever
firmly to the desired position. Do not pause with the transfer case in N (Neutral).

Once the shift is completed, place the automatic transmission into DRIVE or release the clutch pedal on a manual transmission.”

I always do N for any 4L shifting. I would not apply the parking break during any 4L shift. The book says to be slowly rolling.

So trans in N and rolling at walking speed do your in or out of 4L shifting.

Yeah if you think about it even after you come to a complete stop it'll take a second for the transmission to slow down due to all the gear ratio shenanigans going on with the transfer case. Probably have to wait a second or so

Yeah, but I was not shifting in or out of 4LO. I was just shifting the transmission into Park so I could stop and get out and scout ahead and pick lines and such being as I was out alone.

Also, anyone know what's up with the Offroad+ mode in terms of the whole Speed Select. I was reading over the manual as I thought it was odd that this Rubicon does not have Speed Select (at least it does not have the button) when my other two JLU Rubicons did. But I decided to check out the OffRoad+ feature and if you shift into manual mode with Offroad+ pressed and in 4LO it still operates like Speed Select is on. Did they just remove the button for speed select and just "incorporate" it into the Offroad+ mode?

I too have had that same error message pop up when out wheeling. typically when i come to a stop and shift straight into park. Now I will come to a stop, wait a quick second/two then put it in park and dont get the error message or the nasty clicking noise.

This.

With my 2025 Willys always best way to shift in/out of 4low to 4 high! The lever does take more force than I'm used to but it loosens up a bit with use.
