Hi Everyone,
Wanted to make this post in case others are having this issue. My Jeep threw a check engine sign the other week and using a scan tool, I was able to identify the P1404 diagnostic code. This means the EGR valve is not opening/closing when it is supposed to.
Given the issue, the valve is probably clogged with carbon deposit or a bad sensor. You can certainly clean this valve with some Seafoam or WD-40 but I was too lazy and did not have the patience lol. So I bought the new OEM valve which ran me $380, yikes. Install was fairly simple but a pain in the ass to get to the bottom nut. Make sure you have a small 1/4” ratchet.
Anyways after installing, putting the negative terminal back on for the battery, check engine light kept coming back. I couldn’t figure out why for the life of me and so I just caved and took it to a local Jeep mechanic. Turns out the valve needs to be reprogrammed!! Apparently for the new JL models, reprogramming is necessary unlike the JK’s.
So if you have this same issue, take it in to get reprogrammed. You can’t do it yourself because you need special access to the PCM which only mechanics and dealerships have so there’s that.
Good luck everyone and if any questions, feel free to comment.
Btw I have a 3.6 V6 6spd Manual in case anyone is having similar issues.
