Planning to make my first run on the Flat Iron Mesa trail, I was intrigued by the notion of doing it solo--it just increases the sense of adventure, the need for self-reliance in route-finding and figuring out how to run the obstacles, etc. I briefly tried to recruit others to go with, but ultimately, I am very glad I was unsuccessful. I headed out on this trail solo and did not see another soul all day long. I had my ups and downs, got the Jeep stuck twice, was terrified for a while (at The Intimidator), and ultimately had an awesome day.

Great video. Thanks for sharing!

When I first saw what trail you were doing I immediately wondered if you did The Intimidator. Yeah, that's pretty damn frightening, even with an exceptional spotter (Jeep Jamboree FTW!).

Did the nipples on your recovery boards survive with you spinning your wheels like that?

Thanks, man. That was a really unforgettable day, and I worked hard to make a film that really captured the experience. Not the kind of thing I'm going to do every weekend or even every year, so I will want to remember this one. All of it.
Yes, The Intimidator was fairly awful with no spotter, but I got out and checked my position repeatedly. Probably safer than it felt.
As for the recovery boards, yeah, they're fine. I think. Honestly I didn't look real close before throwing them back in the bag, but I didn't notice any plastic debris or anything when I went back to get em. I wonder now if I ground them down, now that you mention it...
