Planning to make my first run on the Flat Iron Mesa trail, I was intrigued by the notion of doing it solo--it just increases the sense of adventure, the need for self-reliance in route-finding and figuring out how to run the obstacles, etc. I briefly tried to recruit others to go with, but ultimately, I am very glad I was unsuccessful. I headed out on this trail solo and did not see another soul all day long. I had my ups and downs, got the Jeep stuck twice, was terrified for a while (at The Intimidator), and ultimately had an awesome day.
