My soft-top YJ was parked outside during Pennsylvania winters. Its factory top was of thinner construction and modestly lower quality than the convertible top on the current JL Wranglers.
Despite the trend of below freezing temperatures in Dec-Jan-Feb, the YJ's top didn't suffer any adverse effects such as brittleness or excessive fogging. I concede that even when new, the plastic windows weren't as crystal clear as their glass equivalent.
Careful handling of the plastic rear window, when loading/unloading, was the order of the day...and not rolling it up, which I'd have no reason to do when cold anyway.
As for interior warmth when driving on a winter's day, the soft top YJ required the heater fan on Medium, when a hardtop might have just needed Low. That's it.
